Hello DAPNet folks!
I am attempting to get draft horse power implemented at our local Camphill community, Heartbeet Lifesharing, up here in Northern Vermont. Heartbeet is a vibrant lifesharing community and licensed Therapeutic Community Residence by the State of Vermont, and includes adults with developmental disabilities interweaving the social and agricultural realms for the healing and renewing of our society and the earth. Community members live and work together, in beautiful extended family households, forming a mutually supportive environment that enables each individual to discover and develop his or her unique abilities and potential. Heartbeet is registered as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation and its primary purpose is serving individuals with developmental disabilities.
Life at Heartbeet includes farm, garden, forestry and therapeutic work that would lend itself to keeping a team fit and healthy no matter what the season. I am committed to finding some way to incorporate in a significant way draft power at Heartbeet. If anyone has any equipment they would consider for a tax-deductible donation, or knows of someone who might, help towards making this goal a reality would be appreciated. Advice would also be appreciated around building up equipment for haying, gardening and forestry within a non-profit that has diverse social work needs that make funds for transitioning to draft power very, very limited. In-kind, tax-deductible donations would incredibly appreciated, but I am not sure how realistic that is for managing to gather enough equipment to begin to meet the Heartbeet Community’s diverse work needs.I am attaching some information regarding Heartbeet Lifesharing, and the worldwide Camphill movement (Heartbeet is a “Camphill community”)

Do you have particular pieces in mind that would be your first priorities?

Given the diverse areas of work (forestry, garden, haying etc.) there is a lot that we would like in the long run, but it seems our 4+ acres of garden and our forestry work is where a team would be most effective in the short term.
If someone was in the Northeast US we could definitely figure out a way to come pick up any potential donations to make things easier for folks as well.Planning out how to equip a non-profit like Heartbeet for draft power is admittedly a tad overwhelming, especially having been in an educational environment at Sterling where the equipment is just already “there” to be used 🙂
