I have two mini donkeys, Hocus & Pocus, and two Icelandic horses, Kolur and Thorsdaggur. To date I have no plans to train them to drive or haul. But you never know. I came to this site while seeking someone to help spread this winter’s manure over the winter paddock.
Retired three years ago. I have always enjoyed challenges and a learning curve that was straight up. Sometimes I think this time I have taken on more than I can handle at 65. Then I have one more wonderful day with the animals and have no doubt that I am in the right place at the right time. Thank goodness for the Internet that keeps opening up new worlds.March 16, 2012 at 6:01 pm #72895Robert MoonShadowParticipantWelcome aboard! I’ve got large-standard donkeys, myself…I’m thinking that driving those critters of yours in a four-up {two teams in a row} would be a blast! There’s quite a few really good and knowledgable teamsters on here that live in Vermont, so if you can hook up with them, you’ll be in excellent hands.

Welcome! This is the place to look if you are interested in finding someone to help you learn about working those animals, or to just connect with the folks that are doing it. You should check out the Draft Animal Power Network (DAPNet) events and publications to see what’s going on (a lot of it is happening in New England).Maybe post some pictures of your horses on this thread. I don’t have any experience with Icelandic horses… Are they draft-y?
Welcome to the network!
