I just picked up a nice sliding neck yoke. Can anyone tell me how these yokes are supposed to work? Are the seat replaceable for different bow sizes?

There are different kinds of sliders out there. You can change the neck seat, but if you go larger be sure there is enough length.:)

I will post a photo so you can tell me what kind it is and how it functions.

The neck pieces slide back and forth, no way to lock them in. Is that supposed to be how it works? What is the advantage of this design?

That sure looks like a nice one. That is called a self adjusting evener yoke.
It lets them step in and out so they can go in between or around things easier. It gives them a lot more freedom so it is great on slippery footing, like snow rolling. If you have a problem with your cattle wanting to crowd or haul out you can put them in this kind of yoke to stop it.:)

    Thanks Howie

Looks like I can make diffrent size seats to accomidate them as they grow? Is this an everyday yoke also?

Most of those yokes had hold back rings, that one doesn’t, but they aren’t generally necessary anyhow. Most of the self adjusters have the mechanize on the top instead of on the back. They weren’t very popular for heavy work, but for most work they are just fine with most steers, some steers don’t work well in them.:)
