Having been involved as a practitioner and as a promoter of this work of
Sustainable Forestry for many years it is nice to share some success with the
readers of this forum who work hard to do things differently.

When we have applied for grants in the past one of the recurring questions is how will you measure your success. Some measurements are hard to nail down with hard numbers, but changes can be subtle yet powerful.

We wanted to share with the readers an example of the influence small groups such as this forum may have on the mainstream. Such an example is using the phrases and language that we use to define and describe our practices to be both environmentally sensitive and economically gainful over the long term. This web site was brought to my attention by a researcher that noted the use of phrases that I coined. Those are “worst first” and “enhanced residual dividend”, in this case. This paper doesn’t mention animal power, but we can speak to that with our work and our words.

Thanks for being out there DAP people. Keep up your good work. As Margret
Meade said, all real changes have been because of a small group of dedicated people made them happen.
