Started pulling logs the other day….. nice pine, close skid, good weather, but I had to stop for a flat tire on my cart.

Next day I thought I’d just swap out the wheels and tires for another set given to me with brand new tires already mounted on 4-lug 13″ wheels. Looked like a snap, but the hub was just 1/8″ too big for the wheel….. no problem, rather than running to town to take tires off and swap rims, I’d just heat the flange and spread it to fit the hub. Ran out of gas, so off to town anyway, but still without the tires. Finally cut the flange right off the wheel with new gas, and reamed out the hole to fit the hub. It took most of the day….. no logs cut or skidded.

Next day, on the cart with frickin awesome new tires…. first hitch, tight and traveling…. about ten feet from the stump, I ran over one of those pieces of wood, rotten stem from the last time I harvested in there, with a few stubs, you know like a prehistoric club, I’ve run over a million of these, but this one cut right through the sidewall of the brand new tire!!!! Pffft…. back to the barn….. changed the wheel back to the remaining one from the other set….. now we’re logging.

Just think what that experience would have been like with a skidder with the same problems!!

Better a flat tire than a stabbed hoof, methinks…so, from that perspective, you got lucky, really…

The true game of logging. If these types of mishaps weren’t a constant we’d make too much money and be rich. Couldn’t stand for that…

Life would be so boring, if everything is going smooth…
