April 10th 2011. We have had a warm dry spell over here in Ayrshire so we got the harrows out. This is the second time we have harrowed this year. The 1st one was realy just to level the mole hils. I will harrow again in a couple of weeks to try and rip the buttercup leaf. It definaitly helps to control this weed. My youngest daughter Caitlyn took the lines for a while. She handles this team well for a 12yo. Its great to pass the skills on to the youngsters…

Looks great John! We’re almost ready to start a bit of that here…scattering the manure on the winter feed ground. Then it’s off to spreading the manure from the corrals…. good work for horses!

    hello john,
the only thing i got green as your fields is pure envy. don’t hold it against me, our snow is about gone but the edges and the woodlot, so all it is here is dead grass and lots of mud. a foot of muck where the horses trod. but our house garden plot is drying out nicely and may get a plow on it next week. it gets alot of manure after freeze up, so we turn that down and lime it and disc that in and no amendments this yeare. have to get our peas in by patriots day, april 18th, to get peas for the 4th july. thats the news from here.

    hey john,
there is a day here each spring and the fields are finally green. even though you know its coming it is always a suprise. today is the day. i walked out the door this morning and the fields look like yours in your photos, a little shorter in grass albeit. so i figure we are about three weeks add another for the grass behind you here. cheer up a bit there. it might you take another week to get your sfj, but you have us beat by a month on spring. we’ve ploughed up some of our old soil, but now its time to plow some sod. best wishes and good plowing, mitch

    John,

Somehow I had missed these pictures. Nice setup, beautiful country. Cute kid, too. A kid with a set of lines in her hands can’t be messing up too much.

John, I’m wondering who did the braids on the horses mane? I suspect Caitlyn may be the hairdresser. Looks good!:D

A good braid adds a little class to any fine turnout, good job.

Nice pictures and thanks for sharing them. I too am glad to see you getting your daughter on the lines.
It’s great to see some green for us too. May 1 was flat cold (lower teens) and snowy here.
Very nice looking team and beautiful daughter. You gotta be proud.

Thanks for the kind words people.. Yes Caitlyn did the braids..she is a bit more fussy on turnout than me:o. She can do a good job on tails for the halter classes as well… We havent had rain for nearly 2 weeks now and no signs for the incomming week. Could do with some rain now tho. Some of the spring barley around here is showing a bit of stress now.
