A couple of days ago I did my first four abreast hitch drive…..
Hey, it wasn’t always pretty we drove them for 22 minutes, went over a mile, they got to traveling about 8 mph and no one died…. Next time we try this I’ll be in the hay field with lots more room and hopefully several issues lined out. Back to team driving for me…. That was a little more exciting that I think I’m ready for. I guess one has to get their feet wet before they can go swimming… At least now I know it is Luc, Galahad and maybe Merlin on a 3 abreast hitched to a buckboard for 2011 parade duty! Hank has issues, Merlin is gonna be one drivin’ dude, except he has rubbed his bridle off twice now, both times were back at the trailer but he’s still getting one that he can’t dislodge over his 20 inch ears!

Here is one of the photos that didn’t make it on the blog. For the story and more photos go to http://www.2011teamdonk.wordpress.com
We did it! Now back to the drawing board to fix what needs fixed so I can try this again, so please don’t just judge to harshly.

Unless you dive in head first, then the last thing wet is your feet. There is only one rule. If you do what you feel, have fun and be safe doing it. I think you probably knew the animals enough to know their, and your limitations or you wouldn’t have attempted it. First time or not you did a great job here. If you or your donkeys were nervous about it then taking the picture from the rear was a good choice in covering that up. But they look realxed to me. Take care.

Thank Larry! I actually was feeling very very good about the whole deal until I found I could not stop them, they do work well on voice commands so I was okay! I have since redone my lines and taken a step back to ground drive them as a three abreast. I have also ordered three abreast eveners for the buckboard (it’s the only vehicle I have that will work).

The four abreast eveners I am thinking I would like them shorter. Right now I feel like they would make terrific chemical spray arms behind my hubby’s tractor out in the field!

I really feel like I need to get the three going well then add the fourth into the equation. It is a work in progress! What doesn’t kill us… makes us…oh you know! I did just post photos on my blog of the lines I am using and the three abreast team http://www.2011teamdonk.wordpress.com
