A friend on facebook posted this link to a the USDA’s Organic Roots Collection, this is part of the searchable National Agriculture Library. It basically provides downloadable pdf versions of old USDA Bulletins and Experiment station reports prior to 1942 (before widespread use of chemicals, thus “organic” I suppose, though many contain talk of chemical use, but not like we have today). Some of the work and research done at this time is relevant to small farms of today and can be a good resource. I have a small collection of old bulletins and I never know when one will become valuable to my current activities, this fall it was “Selecting Ear Corn for Show and Seed.” I used it to select the hominy ears that I want to keep for seed.

Anyway here is the link for those interested in some of the USDA’s, in my opinion, best work.
