Hello,
My name’s Helen and I work with a large herd of Longhorns (plus Dexters and various sheep) as part of conservation / habitat management. We’ve selected a pair of longhorns to try to yoke train. We have been advised that they are too old to begin; which I have taken on board, but even if they “only” end up halter trained / biddable / able to pull something light for a demo then they will fit into our plans. Those plans being as sort-of mascots. At the very least, they will help us bring other cattle in from the fields! Of course it would be fantastic to get some real work out of them too!
I have had a breakthrough today. We were lent an ancient yoke to look at, yet it seemed far too small and to be missing bits (compared to the US versions seen all over Google). Turns out we have a head yoke. The second part of the breakthrough being that I’ve found a useable yoke to buy!
I’m sure I will ask many silly questions and make many silly mistakes, but look forward to digging through the information and advice here.
(Special hello to “Ixy”, who I went to see back in February)
Cheers

Yep
Ahhh, was trying to upload a photo of one of our heifers, but it failed. Do you have to have a certain number of posts before adding attachments?
Anyway, I’m collecting the yoke on Sunday…
