Virginia has a new Draft Horse and Mule Association! Old Dominion Draft Horse and Mule Association, Inc. was established in early January 2011 to promote draft animals in Virginia.

Please check out our website: http://www.oddhma.org

We are kicking 2011 off with a big bang! Our kick-off event is April 23, 2011! With the cold weather that we’ve been having here in Virginia, I can’t wait for spring!

We have scheduled a variety of events to accommodate our members! We’re growing! Join us!

Just a little over a month and we already have 50 ODDHMA members! We have been busy planning activities! I love doing all things with my draft horses, but I’m really looking forward to creating a wonderful obstacle course at our farm fun day for all to enjoy and challenge our teamsters!

So here are a couple question….What do you find most challenging as a participant at your club’s event? What do you look forward to most or what gets you to the event in the first place? What activities do you prefer?

I just wanted to get some other draft horse/mule owners input…..

    Thanks!

Hi wldbrry. Congratulations on your new Association, I wish you a good first year, and many more happy ones in the future. Nice website.
When I take my Shires to an Association event here in England, the activity which is the biggest challenge for us in the obstacle course, is to ‘Stand Still’ for the alotted count!
When they first arrive at the site they are as good as gold, and follow everything I say. But after a while, it seems they think “ok, it’s fun here, we can guess what we have to do next, so lets get on with it”! lol
I look forward to having an opportunity to go out with them, for them to meet new animals and humans, and practice their skills. Also I am grateful that generous people make their fields available for the event, it’s not always easy to find somewhere you can do farm work with horses.
Hope this helps 🙂 Have fun.
