Went on our once a month wagon train today. Went about 15 -20 miles. The others went Saturday too but we could only make today. Had about 7 wagons and a real good time. I came as close as I ever have to having a wreck with horses. We were going through a small little wide spot in the road town and a couple kids started jumping on a trampoline right by the road. The group likes to walk, so I was in the lead at a walk. If I had been at my normal trot it would probably not have happened as they would have been past it on a tight line before they knew it. As it was at a walk they stopped and tried to change ends. They were all the way to the side and rearing HIGH. I got them down and swung back toward the front and got them moving. In the meantime Jackie was hollaring her head off at those kids to stop jumping. Got them going again and it all happened so fast there wasn’t even time to get scared. When we got back I saw that the braket to the tongue from the reach was bent. Lucky the pole didn’t break. Lesson learned – “when you are driving and in a dicey situation, keep your speed up so you can keep good line pressure. Don’t let them stop!” I knew that but was daydreaming. Here are few pictures.
