As part of a farm walk series yesterday I had the opportunity to visit a horse-powered CSA/market garden … over in Walla Walla, WA – Welcome Table Farm operated by Emily and Andy Asmus. I might be off on the numbers a bit but they do a 70 member CSA as well as restaurant sales (Walla Walla is now a winery area so some higher end restaurants). They’ve been at 5 years and have done a great job. Walla Walla is a pretty good place to grow with decent soils (and flat!), adequate water supply and longish growing season.
There were 10+ folks who were interested in using animal power in their operations and I encouraged them to join us here and hopefully some will.
