Yeah, I know it’s HeeHaw that’s got the friend w/ the mini-mules, but work with me here, alright?
:pJune 10, 2011 at 3:00 am #67633dominiquer60ModeratorA few years from now we will look back on this post as the start of the Western Mountain Animal-Power Field Days….or what ever you want to call it, anyway you look at it this will be a great event. How can you go wrong with a pirate in charge.

In the immortal words of that great and wise philosopher, Bugs Bunny:
“She don’t know me very well, do she?”
😀
Actually, Erika, we were hoping you’d show up and provide adult supervision to this shindig. 😉The land owners were down there today, burning some old brush (they’re in at least their 80s) and we chatted about this thing… She declared that she’d never seen working donkeys or mini-mules and I had to explain what ‘Fjules’ are. “Can we come?”
I’m thinking to myself “Lady, you OWN this land…what do you mean, ‘can you come’?!?”
But of course, that’s just Evelyn’s (sp?) way.
So, she and her husband have been extended a very personal invitation to attend. Hey, I’m a pirate…but I’m a POLITE pirate!
Now if no Fjules or mini-mules show up, I’m in deep doo-doo. 😮June 10, 2011 at 4:27 am #67682HeeHawHavenParticipantIf the dates work, the fjules are in! The mini mules are up to Randy. Btw, if you haven’t seen them, check out this you tube video. They’re awesome!

June 10, 2011 at 5:25 am #67645Robert MoonShadowParticipantThat is SO cool!!!Is the woman (judging by the sound of the voice) driving the wheelers? I wonder why that is? I think he’s talking them up for the crowd…those mules seem to respond so well to the lines!
BTW Dave, I’m still waiting on YOUR suggestions as for dates for this thing, too!
{Wow, I hope I’m not being too subtle…}June 10, 2011 at 2:46 pm #67683HeeHawHavenParticipantThat’s his 14 year old daughter on the wheelers. She has to hold them back at times when they are all coming around. He only has his wheelers and lead team on lines. The rest follow along. His lead team are in their 30’s and are awesome. They’ve set all sorts of records in speed barrels, chariot roping and log pulling. He talks all the time to them. They respond really well to voice commands.
Dates – any in September or october except 9/9-9/11.

My garden {the small one}…
The flag will be higher, and thus easier to see from the highway. It seems to attract the notice of the fishermen and river floaters…June 12, 2011 at 2:35 am #67648Robert MoonShadowParticipantHow does Sunday, October 9th sound? Or if we want to make it the whole weekend, people can start showing up Friday the 7th?
In the photos above, we’ve got the land to the south (almost 8 acres) to play on.*Thanks, Kristi, for the photos!*
June 12, 2011 at 4:10 pm #67619J-LParticipantI had been busy and not checked back in here. Wow, got some interest showing.
It would be nice if I could load up the western Wyo contingent and come. The 9th isn’t objectionable to me. I’ll have to check with my boss, he’s sure enough a good guy and likes to work animals, so I ought to be able to cut loose (by the way, I’m self employed).
I’d like to drag a plow up with a team. I have to get the kinks worked out of the plow and need somebody who speaks plow better than this dumb rancher.
That date would allow me to hit some early elk hunting and get home to work cattle before shipping.
Would be nice if this is a go.June 13, 2011 at 12:43 am #67649Robert MoonShadowParticipantJ-L ~
Oh, it’s definitely a “go”. Just finalizing a date that’s good for everybody.
I’ve got a plow, too – and also need to meet up w/ someone actually smart enough that n=knows how to dial it in…of course, me being me, I’ll probably just do it w/ my donks and take it low and slow. If nothing else, if you show up, I’ll be able to definitely tell you how NOT to do it!! It’ll be another instance where having a sensible donkey will help alleviate the not-so-sensible human involved.
Hope to see you here.June 13, 2011 at 1:02 am #67612Carl RussellModeratorRobert MoonShadow;27473 wrote:Hi, LF!

…Reminds me of “Archie and Mahitabel”. Archie the Cock-roach would dive off of the type-writer and land headfirst on the keys….. wrote a whole book like that!!!
Other than that… this looks to be quite an event. Wish I could make it, but I don’t have anything small enough, or with long enough ears:D.

June 13, 2011 at 4:19 am #67650Robert MoonShadowParticipantCarl – “Size doesn’t matter”
My donks won’t hold it against your “ear-challenged” horses…they’re cool like that.
😎So, if that’s your only excuse, we’ll be seeing you in October, yes?
June 13, 2011 at 5:46 am #67624near horseParticipantRobert – I’ll make it whenever you schedule it. Hope that will help others with more restrictive schedules.
BTW – I have some “ear extensions” I can add on to my team. Not much I can do about their voices though.
Thanks for doing this!
We probably need to think about “housing arrangements” are for the animals. Or at least make sure folks know what to expect (like need to bring panels, electric fence or what have you).
June 13, 2011 at 2:04 pm #67651Robert MoonShadowParticipantGood idea, Geoff – It’s hard to say what, if any green we’ll have for grazing by then: usually it’s pretty brown around here, but this year is so wet, who knows what it’ll be like. I’ve got about a half dozen 16′ welded wire cattle panels anyone can use – I use a single-strand electric (battery powered) wire for my girls. Anyone can feel free to bring their own set up, as well – there should be lenty of room to seperate the animals as needed/wanted. I’ll probably have bought my hay by then, so there’s that.
“Ear extensions” should work. But there’s just no way to teach a horse to sing like a Rocky Mountain Songbird! You’re just out of luck, there.
Actually, DDD’s Luc & Melin & my Jenny-Mae all come from the ‘Rocky Mountain Songbird’ ranch in eastern Montana. 😉 - AuthorPosts
