right after bridge takes you to Hammer Creek. From hwy 95, there’ll be signs/balloons.
August 31, 2011 at 5:39 am #67668Robert MoonShadowParticipantRight after you turn off of hwy 95 onto old 95, you can see me flags.
August 31, 2011 at 5:07 pm #67690HeeHawHavenParticipantLooking forward to it….. So, you’re saying we can rough camp right there? That would be best. I probably don’t need panels. I have electric fence or they can stand at the trailer. I’ll assume we’ll be on our own for food or pot luck as it happens. Sounds like fun.
How many of you are committed to coming now that it’s getting closer?

I’m in. Will rough camp too. Now I’m not sure exactly where Robert’s place is. I thought he said right next to BLM Hammer Creek Rec Area. If I remember right there’s a pretty good sized rest area at Skookumchuck not far from the Hammer Creek site.

Scott – are you thinking of coming up? Woo hoo!
Maybe…, depends if I can finish up the projects that I need to before the snow flies. If I do, I’ll probably just pack the ‘baru and leave the truck/trailer & critters at home to save money (fuel, etc.). Sounds like a blast! 🙂
August 31, 2011 at 6:20 pm #67669Robert MoonShadowParticipantGeoff – At the same turnoff for Hammer Creek (one of my gardens is near Hammer Creek, but that’s not the one), then cross the bridge, but turn left and follow back around for about a mile. There’s a streetview photo on googlemap of the Hammer Creek turnoff from Hwy 95. See where your map shows to cross the river and then curves to the right? turn left, instead. Your map doesn’t show the road, but Deer Creek road is there. Where your map says Old US Hwy 95, the “H” in Hwy is directly across the river from the site.
August 31, 2011 at 6:43 pm #67670Robert MoonShadowParticipantYeah, there’s good level spots for “rough camping”. I’ve got a propane grill and a good camp stove, plenty of firewood will be on hand…and there’s Hoot’s Cafe and Mac’s ‘Bar and Dinner Club’ if we can’t handle our own cooking. I’ve been used to camping/working in the wildernesses this time of yeat for the last 4, so my idea of “rough camping” doesn’t include the port-a-potty 100 ft. away…that’s down-right luxurious!
And I’m thinking that no matter what, it WILL be fun!! –> How could it not be, with all of you being there? I’m really looking forward to you all being here!September 6, 2011 at 2:51 pm #67691HeeHawHavenParticipantLooks like my mentor, Lee is going to come! Still working on the mini-mules! Can’t wait!

September 19, 2011 at 3:02 pm #67671Robert MoonShadowParticipantIt’s been cooling down around here…finally! I’ve got some camp wood and 3 logs for snigging already – more today. I’m thinking that perhaps we should cancel the ‘flapjack race’, as there’s no perimeter fencing, and if any animal was to get away during the shenanigans, it could get off down the road or onto some rocky areas along the river. Safety first!
But there’ll be plenty to do, besides that. These logs aren’t all that big; about 7 1/2 ft. long, and maybe 8-10″ diameter – I loaded them in my horse trailer by myself – but they should give us an opportunity to hitch a critter to them and have some weight behind them, to see how it works. For myself, I’d like to see how to properly lay out and plow a field – the dead furrow/back furrow, etc. are something I need to see in order to grasp it better. I’ll measure off the area and post to give an idea of what we’ve got to play with…
Dave ~ I’m looking forward to meeting you and Lee!September 21, 2011 at 2:55 pm #67692HeeHawHavenParticipantRobert, just found out my band has a gig on Saturday, the 8th! 🙁 I can possibly still come up for the day on Sunday the 9th if there will be people still there. Also, maybe stay that night – we don’t have school on the 10th. With the way my income is down, I have to take in all I can!
September 22, 2011 at 1:59 am #67672Robert MoonShadowParticipantAww…Dave! Well, you’ve gotta do the necessaries first in life! I’m gonna still be here (of course) and I’ve told everybody that it’s planned for two days, so…
I was planning on butchering 3 or 4 rabbits around then, and have thought to make some rabbit stew, if people wanted to have a potluck the last night?
So, yeah, c’mon up and get yourself some fun, on Sunday!September 25, 2011 at 2:06 pm #67673Robert MoonShadowParticipantI’d like to get an approximate head count on who all’s coming; for how many days; and what animals/equipment are being brought.
September 26, 2011 at 5:22 am #67693HeeHawHavenParticipantI hope to be there sometime on Sunday and leave Monday after lunch. How far of a drive is it from Boise? How many hours? Hope it works out for us. We’d bring Duke and the Fjules and a fore cart and maybe a chariot.
September 26, 2011 at 2:14 pm #67674Robert MoonShadowParticipantGoogle Maps shows Hwy 55 – 95 route is 182 miles, takes 4 hours. Taking hwy 95 (passing hwy 55) is 215 miles, 4 hours 10 minutes. I’ve never made it in less than 5 hours in my old trucks. That’s why I never pay attention to what people say on how many hours…their vehicles seem capable of a lot more speed than anything I can afford!
I’ll look for ya Sunday!
{How many people are you bringing with?}September 27, 2011 at 2:52 pm #67694HeeHawHavenParticipantThings keep working against me trying to make it up there. I have the gig and my son is coming in for a visit, plus I just got word of a wedding reception that weekend. We’ll just have to see what happens. I will try my best to make it. If we come, it would probably be 1-3 of us!
