I took my wife to her ultrasound this morning and found out we are having a son at the end of May. I guess we’ll have another generation of male teamsters in the family with the same last name. If it was a girl I bet she’d still drive as good but at least my Dads family legacy will carry on. Every generation of his family has had draft horses as far back as we know of. We have a 3 yr old nephew with a little sister on the way. He sits a horse pretty good and has no fear but lives in Kansas City so only gets to the farm twice a year. My other brother has a 1yr old daughter and I’m sure she’ll get her hands in it also because she spends one day a week at the farm already. I guess we’ll do our share to keep this draft horse and farming thing alive. It was a good day for us. We had some good news, I drove our young team together with their open bridles, we put new wheel bearings in the Pioneer plow, moved some heifers and worked on the corn binder some too.

Congratulations! It is great that teamsters are having little teamsters, I hear it is easier when you start them young 🙂

Heck, He might grow up to be a mule man, but that’s OK. Good wishes, Donn and Maryrose

    Congratulations!
But remember: just because you’ll be busy planting & such doesn’t mean you get to duck out on your fair share of changing diapers! 😀

    Congratulations Dennis:)

I spent many years free of parenthood before I was blessed with this situation. The chance to pass on to our kids these skills is awe inspiring, and motivating beyond any personal reward I had ever experienced before. It will be really cool if the connection that we’ve made here can also be part of what we pass on.

Good luck, and have fun, Carl

    Congradulations,

I am envious that you will be able to share your draft experience with your children.

My son is 18 and headed to Paris Island in 6 months. I am a beginner and will not have that oppurtunity with him.

Hope mom is doing well too.

Thanks folks everything is going good! Mom and baby are both doing well but it will be a relief after he is here! Hope for an early spring so plowing and planting is done before. Plan to take a week off from the day job when he is born to help his mom get situated at home. Have alot of extra work booked for this summer but I’ll want to be home as much as I can!

My Dad and I went to see some Amish friends on Monday. we were talking to the harness maker and somehow it came up that my Dad was expecting his 3rd and 4th grandchildren this spring. My Dad asked Jake how many he had. He is a few years older than my Dad. He stroked his beard for a moment and said 41 so far but my youngest has only been married a couple years so there is still time for more. Wow thats alot of grandkids I don’t think my Dad and Mom have to worry about that many.

5-25-09 at 3:36am our boy got here. 8lbs of raw muscle and 21 inches tall. He kicks his feet and waves his arms and picked his own head up 15 minutes after birth. He’s a rugged little guy and looks like he’s got the hands of a horseman. Before we know it he’ll be pulling the lines on a big hitch with Me and his Grandpa!

Congratulations Dennis. Say good bye to the world as you know it. It’s the most time consuming thing you have ever undertaken. Every minute worth all you can imagine. Can’t wait to hear more.

Congratulations Dennis! Far as vaccinations go you best bet is to try and not let him even meet a mule until he is eighteen. Even that can back fire – might run a way or start a mule farm down the road. just kidding, the lines are all the same. Donn
