Hoping to get some ash spread this fall, soon actually.
I understand that a manure spreader is the way to go but wonder about the ash dribbling out the back more than getting beaten & spread. Is this an issue? If so, how do you deal with it?

    Thanks,

Mark do not fill your spreader too full I put a flake or two of old hay at the back by beaters if you do not have a tailgate to help hold in or if chain does not move ash corectly spread hay in bottom of spreader before loading most of all wait untill you know you will have some rain after spreading to soak it in

We put a little compost on the bottom of the manure spreader. Put the ash on top and spread away.

    Thanks, Missy.
Is the reason to do it before rain so it doesn’t blow away? Can you stock pile it w/o issue so you have it to spread at an appropriate time?

    Mark,

spreading it with compost or manure is the way to go. I will be doing this with lyme shortly.

You can stockpile ash without much problem. If it is windy and dry, simply wet the stockpile down and let it dry. It will develope light crust that will protect the rest of the pile.

    Good luck.
