ParticipantIt seems the frost has come out of the ground all at once here in these last two weeks of wicked heat. I know the town’s dumped nearly 2 dozen loads of gravel in my road, and my neighbors had to borrow a high rigged jeep just to get home.
It’s the same in the woods- looks good until you get in it. The horses do well, especially with shoes, but I think I’ll keep them out on dry land for a while.
Muddy here in NH. Is it the same elsewhere? Do any of you have stories or tips to share? I liked someone’s idea (Carl?) for creating sidehill roads by leaving scrap trees on the downhill side. I bet that’s work well today!

ParticipantBasically no mud season at all here in Mass. It was a little greasy for a few days and now its so dry they are worried about brush fires already. The big machine guys didn’t even stop for more then a day or two. Weird for sure.

It is the worst mud season I have seen in 21 tears working for the public works department. Too much heat way to fast. Will be glad to see it done. We have hauled over 300 ton of stone to fill holes to keep the traffic moving. Had to keep the school buses off some of the roads to keep them from getting stuck.

ParticipantOur mud is living under the 8+ inches of wet snow/slop still on the ground! Nothing is frozen underneath so it’s a nice mess – county roads are muddy when they plow ’em and the snow banks are black with gravel that used to be the road surface (or my driveway surface).
