    Hi Albert,
if you google draft horse harness in Nova-Scotia there is a shop in Truro http://www.waynessaddlery.com which has harnesses, there are other tack shops with web sites and some other with no web site but adresses and phone numbers. Its under Tack Shops Nova-Scotia equestrianfederation in the google search, hope this helps a bit.

There’s a harness shop in Sackville NB called Sackville Harness, web site http://www.sackvilleharness.com . Not sure about harness shops in NS. There is a guy that makes harnesses from his home in Memramcook NB, thats where I got mine, he does great work at fair price. Hi9s maybe in Florida at this time of year not sure though. If you need more info let me know.

Hi Albert welcome to DAPNet, a lot of good people here and lots of info. I’m not far from you and wondering where your location is so I mapquested Peasbrook and it doesn’t show any location. If I remember well I did mapquest Peasbrook once for something on sale either on kijiji or I was looking for farm equipment on a web site anyway can’t quite remember and didn’t find a location then either, so Peasbrook must be small or close to some larger location. I’m Bouctouche NB was just wondering how close we are from each other.

Mitch, sent an e-mail to the harness shop in Sackville NB. They’ve been in business since the early 1900’s. In there catalogue they have a tug with a ring in the middle, so is it common around here? I’m not sure but hoping somebody there can answer me there. If they have them in the catalogue there has to be some teamsters using them?? We’ll see.

Mitch, I have yet to see any D-ring harness here in New-Brunswick, have mention it to a couple of teamsters, even a harness maker and they don’t seem to have any knowledge of this kind of harness. But that is only a few people that I have ask. There is an Agricultural Fair in Sainte-Marie de Kent NB with a horse pull competition and horse showing. Been going there for the past twenty some years and have never seen a D-ring. Maybe its a harness that was around but is in no use anymore??? I’m curious about that and will certainly inquire more. The Fair’s web site is http://www.expokent.ca for your curiosity.

Andy, I will certainly get around to taking some pics of the sloven. Depending on where it is stored I don’t know when I will be able though. I google “sloven wagon” and came up with several web sites with info on these wagons. They still use at least one that you see in a picture at the Acadian Historic Village to transport visitors. Most of them are single but there is a pic of four in hand.

A teamster neighbor of mine bought a wagon like that a couple of years back from an old fellow, they called it a sloven. He took it apart did some repairs and gave it a coat of paint and park it on the side of the road for a couple of months. Stored it for the winter that year but didn’t bring it out again. I’ll ask him about it and try and take pics to post.

Here is a manufacturer in the prov. of Quebec http://www.lproyer.com/en/, specialized safety boots number 8614 forestry boot. Very solid boot. Don’t know if you can get them in your neck of the woods. Think I paid 285+tax. Foresters around here love them.

You have a good selection with all the suggestions you’ve had from everybody. If you’re going with the Viking boot I would opt for the one’s with the leather upper. The sides of the full rubber boot will tear up which happened to me. I think while felling trees you walk along the tree in branches and the sharp ends of the branches cut them up, only explanation I can think of. Have fun researching.

    Hi Steve,
white pine needles come in bundles of 5 and red pine in bundles of 2, so fairly easy to distinguish. A way to remember is white five letter= five needles. At this time of year the wind fall will keep easily because it is cold and insect won’t be active to go after it, but if left for a year then there will be problems with insects later on.
Depends to on how long its been down? How come it was blown down rot in the butt? Limbing and cutting into lenghts will give an idea what condition it is in. Before doing that looking at the butt right now will tell you if there is any rot, if so cutting off pieces of 2 feet or so will help to find sound wood. then you decide how you want to cut it. Hope this helps.
