I do have for sale…Two 19 inch Draft Horse Collars with a buckle billet used one month. Style is a 10 GR All purpose Half Sweeney collar, 12 ½ inches wide. $50.00 each or $75.00 for the pair plus shipping. Will fit very thick necked horses, usually stallions that normally require a full Sweeney. http://www.broadheadcollar.com/collarmeas.jpg Shows how to measure for a collar
Two sets of 22 inch Farm Hames, bolt type black powder coated with Stainless steel balls in excellent condition. Complete with top and bottom hames straps, 2 inch roller bolts, and twisted links for breast strap snaps $55.00 each pair plus shipping
I’m going to see four sets of used farm hames that fit my 18 inch collars and would make someone a good deal on them. I’ve got a buggy hame set that fit the same collars and it has heavy leather traces sewed into it. If anyone is interested.

Dynamite minerals are excellent as are the Moorman’s. There are some good mixes out there. To me it in important to feed the loose minerals not the blocks. I do have to say I have been warned NOT to feed any extra Iron, isn’t that what Red Cell is? I discontinued feeding Beet Pulp after finding out how high the Iron content is as well as the in balance of calcium/phosphorous. Feeding your animals correctly is truly an art. I know with my donkeys I only feed about one third of what the manufactures recommend any more than that and we have major hoof blowout problems.

Geoff, my day certainly was not as planned. I was only on site from 2:30 to 3. Did not have the video camera set on the correct mode and as a result did not get much on film. So disappointing! I missed seeing anyone having any problems, it looked like everything was running smoothly. The two gentlemen with the huge cameras in the field said my timing was good as the harvest was up and running after a breakdown. They are hoping to sell some of their photos so hopefully we will all enjoy them at some point and time. What I did get on film is posted here:

I wished I would have thought of that when I was trying to decide what to do, sounds like a good suggestion!

What an interesting thread, with some great info!!! I had this problem only worse. One of my donkeys would pick the neck yoke up in his mouth and pack it. What I discovered was the collar was to large and was rubbing him. He has chew marks in all my neck yokes but now it is from telling me it is time to go. I’ll stop and let him rest, when he is ready to go he grabs on to the neck yoke and I tell him it is time to boogie down the road.

I especially like the side check info. I finally broke down and purchased the side checks that go down the back with the two straps that hook to the ring on the breeching. I really like them. My donkeys want to get their heads down and rub on the neck yoke. Yes, I have had a bit shank get snapped into the slide snap. Really happened in a terrible place and the Luck of the Irish was with me all the way that day. The boys can still get their heads down but not all the way to the ground. I have redone the bridles to get them fitting more comfortably and the wanting to rub has also stopped.

In my case it was equipment not fitting well that started Luc chewing on the neck yoke, his team mate picked up on the bad habit. Now it is a way of communication with the one donkey, Luc, who has his own way of talking to me. The new team does not do that…unless I hitch one of the other donkeys up with the new team. They teach each other their bad habits!

I just changed out my snap as I am so afraid it will happen again. I put two snap shackles on in place of the snap. I no longer am afraid of the bit shank getting snapped in and I have an extra snap shackle should anything break on one of my road trips.

I just past driving the teams over 400 hours and we are working on 700 miles. I took some scenic photos of where I drive and posted them in my last few blog entries is anyone is interested http://www.2012teamdonk.wordpress.com

How about next April (12-14th I think) attend the Small Farmer’s Journal Auction at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, Madras, OR? That’s a perfect place to meet folks. Make sure to attend the round table discussion, that was well worth the entire trip for us!

John, it’s always nice to meet with like minded folks. I hope someday it works out for you both!
