DubbaParticipantI’m confused. Is the book & dvd 2 separate items (25 each)? Is it a generous portion?
DubbaParticipantUnfortunately You are right. It is no fun to listen to unappreciative people who do not follow any sort of common decency in regards to other people’s property.
We have the same type of snowmobile riders down here as well. One property owner wanted no traffic from 9pm to 9am, reasonable enough in my book. We put up the sleds before 7pm anyways. It gets dark in them there woods! Signs were posted, maps were annotated, people were warned. Gates went up this fall. Another good trail lost to the few citizens who cared. The rest will go somewhere else & get some more trails closed.
DubbaParticipantI find it expensive to shoe, but find myself paying for it because of the rough ground we work on. Also the winter ice makes it a necessity.
I often wonder if it is truly necessary, but find myself afraid of the cracks & chips that the sharp rocks seem to inflict on my old boys.
They seem more comfortable on shoes, but had never had them (at least in the last 5 years) before they came here. I had never seen the older horse gallop until 3 days after he was shod.
My plan for this winter is to only shoe the younger horse with caulks. The older horse will be left barefoot unless we get more ice than snow, but that’s not likely as we are running ~2ft in the woods right now.
So I guess the answer to the question is-
Inexperience, relying on the farrier’s judgment
Shattered ledge rocks on most trails
Subjective comfort
Ice.

the game of horseshoes orginated (they think) with the Roman Army, their horses would lose a shoe and they would gather them and use them when wore out to pitch at posts.
Makes me wonder if the loser had to shoe the horses?
DubbaParticipantDubbaParticipantIMHO
A successful community is the expectation & realization that everyone will do what is necessary to ensure the survival of the community spirit & wellbeing.
I will try to watch out for my neighbors interests. Even if he is a millionaire & I am a pauper.
I will try to help my community or neighbors in a time of need & demand no payment. Even if the need results in a profit.
I will try to offer help even if there is no apparent need.
I will try to learn as much about my community as possible in order to make informed decisions about mutual concerns.
I will try to be a good steward of the land entrusted to me by the community.
I will not expect my community to act in kind, but will rejoice when it does.
I suppose a successful community will be overflowing with caring people. The sort of people who follow the speed limit, know when to gossip & when to keep their mouths shut.
