I saw one of John’s arches in use at MOFGA in some
tough terrain and it seemed to work really well. The gelding hooked to it comfortable through the stumps,
Down a slope to landing for a few days. The trailer wasn’t in use that time, but the design is pretty slick. I know John will modify to suit and talk with you. He has a nice, simple team arch design as Well which I
Have used.NTroutParticipantHi Carl,
I’m in Maine as well. Not sure your objectives but: Peter Hagerty, Porter, will sometimes work with others horses at his place. John Plowden, Stowe, will travel and sometimes host for training days. Tracey Wilkerson, Bethel, will travel to train I think. You likely know them from MOFGA.
Neal and Rebecca Perry came to my place from VT this past spring to help me team some horses in a 1 1/2 day clinic format. I enjoyed working with them very much, and had a chance to see them work with a single Belgian mare and a team of Percheron mares too. They’d bring great experience and versatility to any horse/application. John Plowden helped me with some of the follow-on work for one horse.
Chris Lombard is a Mainer; a natural horsemanship type. He’s worked with a previous team of Suffolks I had, again during a clinic on my farm. Great guy, lots of applicable experience.
Scott Monroe, Cumberland, is a Combined Driving competitor and trainer. He’s been on our farm for a veterans driving clinic, and I plan to work with him this winter.
Happy to try and help more on the in-Maine side of things. So many really special training resources via DAP, but sometimes distant.
Good luck,
NickNTroutParticipantFirst picture is Neal P. working my Suffolks. Second picture is Erika’s Percheron mares.
NTroutParticipantHeart felt thanks go out to Neal and Bekah Perry for making the trip to southern Maine last weekend for 2 days work with a few teams, and single horses at Carlisle Academy in Lyman.
The resident farm team, a hopeful new pairing, worked in the round pen toward partnering with one another, and their Teamster. Erika Marczak journeyed from CT to iron out subtle driving techniques, movement, and form with her handsome mares. MOFGA Low Impact Foresty Alum Cathy Heffernan drove her mare with an eye on work in the woods. Reva Seybolt came with questions of her own, and info about DAPNet. Horse logger/trainer John Plowden was ring side as were members of the local Abenaki Harness Club, and American Suffolk Horse Assoc.
A fun, and educational experience we hope the DAPNet community will take advantage of in the future!

NTroutParticipantHello,
I’d appreciate hearing more about your geldings. I’m in southern ME. Have a 17hh Suffolk gelding who lost his partner this summer. Thanks. - AuthorPosts
