wouldn’t seating be easier and safer if it was closer to the apex of the arch?
not really, this is a tested design, it’s been around for a lot of years. you have a good view of what is going on, but if you aren ‘t comfortable on the cart you can always alk to one side.
IraParticipantDoes anyone in or around Concord N.H. know if the sales records of the J.R. Hill Harness Co. still exist? They made harness for the Abbot and Downing coaches. I have seen pictures of stage coaches in Vt. with the horses wearing D-ring harness that I would say were taken in the 1800’s.
IraParticipantHow long has the bale been on the ground? Maybe you just need to hook a chain around it to break it loose ?

Thank you Ira, I really appreciate your knowledge. She told me that she thinks the former owner of this horse drove her as a single. I’m thinking if this happened it was in a different harness. I will pass your info on to her. Again, thank you!:)
Your welcome
IraParticipantthat is a “Y back” or “open back harness” never had a back pad in it and mitch is right the quarter straps are hooked in the wrong place.
It is meant to be used as a team harness.March 6, 2011 at 10:46 pm in reply to: Ronnie Tucker’s operation (Pics/Disc. Mules, Jerk line, loading logs w parbuckle) #66092IraParticipantthis is the wagon I saw

IraParticipantI read them when I was younger.Still have them. They were a pretty good description of how things were done early in the century.
IraParticipantI went with beta cuz of the cost. Tried nylon but you can’t feel the horses mouth the way you can with leather lines. Beta also allows you to feel the horses mouths.
IraParticipantI’ve had 2 sets. They tend to crack and then pieces of the coating fall off.
IraParticipantNeat Film, thanks for posting it. Even the harness appeared to be unique!
IraParticipantI’ve got it on tape by Lonzo and Oscar. For you folks that aren’t up on old country music, they go back to the first radio shows 😉

My Grandpa had a peavy and we knew not to touch it . I want to get a good one . I have a guy up here that finds a lot of old logging stuff and when he does he brings it to me to look at or buy. I would like him to find me a good one. Taylor Johnson
The best ones were made by the original “Peavy” company up in maine. don’t know if they are still in business tho.
