Wow !!!!!!!! What an amazing job you did on that sleigh. Well done:) That paint looks a mile deep… I wish we got enough regular snow over here to be worth having one too.. Is the “Roberts” you mention make hitch wagons and vis a vis also.. there’s a guy over here that acts as agent for them if it is the same company..

Potato planter ?!! An old one or one you built yourself.. What do you plant under the plastic. over here they grow maize or corn.. Sounds as if you should be working with Pioneer:) Cheers..

Hey Erika.. Sorry we got a bit sidetracked there:o So to sum up.. A light frame, perhaps along the lines of the old harrow cart, portal axle and adjustable track, which places the operator behind the easily interchangable toolbar or interchangable tools on the bar. A simple lift mechanism, mabey the footlift off the plow can be incorporated. All wearing parts preferably available in frontline agricultural merchants, and perhaps European options on wear parts if there is any diferences. Quality priming and paint .Also a bolt on timber arch for the fore cart.. An add on hydraulic accumulator, if it isnt to heavy, might be useful.

Hey Mitch.. the jac title is my family.. John Andrea Caitlyn:) anyway…. got the photo ok thanks. Checked out my own mower and it was a left hand cut. My pitman turns clockwise as you look at it and by the time I put the same gearing as yours on the final shaft will be going anti clockwise as you look at it from the back ?? Need some thought but a great idea anyway. Such is life when we tinker with old machines eh..

A fabricating/recycling question .. reading the hummer conversion posts made me wonder if light truck steering can be used for a steering set up on a manure spreader for example.. or would the camber/castor effect make for to much whip at the pole ? I believe the old “auto” steer system was neutral regard camber and castor ??. BTW I discovered you can do a fair repair on cast with a mig.. crank up the power and make sure the break is spotless of oil. Fixed my old hay turner gearbox that way last summer..

Jeez Mitch what a simple idea !!! I really need to stop over complicating stuff for myself… I have an old mower that would be ideal.. how did you lift the tedder at the ends?? Fotos !! Donn posted a simple way to download fotos in the communication section.. it was the only way I could get the fotos on..

Hey Neal.. You’re probly right on that.. I come up with these crazy ideas now and then :D.. Im constantly trying to find ways of making draft horses more efficient with the machines they use. Fitting an engine to a round baler should be quite easy as there is no flywheel to worry about. The hydraulic pump drive could be taken from any number of shafts on the baler and not need to be from the engine direct. I like the space saving from a self contained baler but will have to find out how much weight transfer there is as the back door opens. I notice the drawbar does a lot of bouncing as the bale leaves the chamber.

Hi Neal and Robernson.. There was a lot of stuff on balers posted in the equipment section tho mainly small square balers.. I’m actually drawing up an idea for a round baler that has an auto steer axle of its own with engine “assist”.. my idea was to have the engine on a throttle pedal with land drive for the baler and an overrun clutch so that as the bale fills or the ground steepens you could accelarate the engine and override the land drive and thus take the strain off the horses.. this may sound a bit over the top but my reasons for not using the hitch cart is we have small fields and tight turns would be hard with the baler hooked to a hitch cart… I dont see why it cant be land driven because there is a ground driven square baler out there and when that ram punches the bale it must put a fair strain on the team, whereas the round baler is only a rotary and I dont think will be as hard to pull.. tho I mite be wrong:D

20th February 2010…. Frost again last night -5.. Unusual amount of frost in South West Scotland.. or should I really be saying “USUAL for 10yrs ago” ???.. We had a long spell of snow and when it melted the clear nights and ground frost has been here since.. Snowdrops all up now,an amazing little flower that can push its way thru the hardest frozen ground to let us know spring is getting close and when I was in the wood lot yesterday a beech tree had buds that looked ready to burst !!! way too early:( It seems that the weather and nature is unsettled both sides of the pond.

Jeez you guys have as much red tape as we do this side of the pond !!! Isnt it strange that its legal to sell cigarettes which contain about 100 known poisons but not to kill a pig and sell some of that wholesome meat to your neighbors ?!?! We had a situation over here where a small family run butcher in Wales had been selling a sausage in his shop for years, ancient family recipe passed down thru the years… He called them “Welsh Dragon Sausages” .. Inocent enuff ud think. But along comes the Trading Standards Officer and says he has to stop calling them by that name as.. you’ll love this:D.. they dont actually contain dragon meat !!!!! Meawhile on tv a major car maker runs an ad showing a car that does the full “Tranformer” routine and turns into an ice skating robot… more big guy getting away with stuff that a small guy cant.

Seems pretty serious. The SFJ carried an article on the “Grown in Detroit” movement. My only hope is that its not the big boys muscling in on the act and end up spoiling it as usual.. Im a major cynic whenever I see good stuff being taken over by the big guns. Time will tell
