Wow, your horses are going to need a bath before they put that beautiful thing on! So much bling, I love it.

George, it looks like the other “horse” in that picture is a deer, its legs are so small.

    Dear DapNet Transition Team,
I find myself in a tough spot since I took my new full time job. I have not had a job where I actually had to be in an office for 9 hours a day since before I had horses and the rest of my animal gang. This time of year of course that means leaving for work in the dark and coming home from work in the dark. Everything takes longer to get done at night, therefore not allowing me much time for extra responsibilities.
I have not had a chance to get the new account open, or to work with Lisa and Carl on the database. I am still willing to do those two things, but if there is someone else that has the time and the desire, please take it on.
I will not be at the potluck today, but will try to be on the call. I do believe in this group and I want to help get it up and running, I just have not found my footing yet working the hours I have to work.

That is great. Your mule looks as if she really likes to go!

Was the person filming it on horseback? The camera was swaying like a rider does.

I also find the rope over neck “tricks” my mule into thinking she is tied and I can get her halter on with no problem. If I try to only halter her with no rope, I end of doing a lot of walking. She also is better the more I work her. She tends to get more independent the longer I leave her alone. Once she is in halter or harness she is all business.

Sorry, I hit the wrong button on my phone and hung up. Dog barking startled me!

Carl and Jen, do your horses blink a lot? I was watching Anna Mule and the littles today while they were getting their hoofs trimmed. Anna Mule blinks (she has uveitis) 50 to 60 times more than the minis. Someone suggested I use eye drops, because the blinking is from dry eyes. I had never really paid any attention to the blinking before.

Anna Mule does not seem to be bothered by her very bad vision when we are working. She does not like to be in with the bigs because all we think she sees is their huge shadows and that freaks her out a bit. So far she has not been spooky in harness. However she is more relaxed when I talk to her about what we are doing and don’t rely on the lines alone.

She looks like you startled her! The more I read about mules and watch my mule learn new things, the more I love them.

    JAC,

They come stocked with white oak and if/when we replace them we will use Black Locust.

Jason, I know you are talking about using black locust where the horse walks. It is very poisonous to horses, are you worried about them ingesting it somehow, or if the poisons can get in their system through their soles, like black walnut?

When I was a kid I worked at West River Stables in Brookline VT. I worked to ride. It was a great barn setup, tie stalls for horses used in the schooling program, box stalls for boarders horses and the 2 morgan stallions. The manure was all shoveled into holes in the floors and stored under the barn in space large enough to get a tractor into for cleaning. The tie stalls were facing the hay room and all had a door that was used for feeding in front of the horses. The main hay storage was upstairs, but was dropped into a smaller hay room on the level of the horses. There was also a large storage for shavings, a truck would drive into the upstairs and dump the shavings into a hole that was accessed on the same level as the horses.

Too bad the property has been empty for years, wonderful old farm house had been an inn for over 50 years. I was born there. Miss that place and now that I have horses of my own I realize how nice the barn was.

I will get the bank account setup Monday of next week. This week I am wicked busy making wreaths and pies. Sure hope I don’t get them mixed up.

Is there a merchants bank near you? You guys still want to be signers on the account right?
