Is anybody that is planning on going to the workshop a maple syrup producer? I need to get some syrup to send to my family in GA and I can not afford to buy it from where I work. I would love to support someone who sugars with their horses. I am only looking for a gallon of heaven in a plastic jug.

JeanParticipantThe Green Mountain Draft Horse Association had a sled building day last winter. We had a good turn out and built 7 sleds. The iron fronts cost about $50 a piece and the hardware was maybe another $10 and the wood was donated by a member and he sawed it up for us. It was beautiful wood, I wanted to sand and stain mine and make a coffee table out of it, but it was so darn heavy I did not think that would fly in my house. Those that wanted a sled got to take theirs home (for the cost of metal and hardware) and the rest were sold at our auction in May. (I think maybe the one that Rod had for sale on here was one of them). My sled was built for my two minis to pull. It was a great day. Jen has one of the sleds too.
JeanParticipantHi everybody, I am trying to figure out what nights this week I am expected to be on a call with any of the committees. If you need me or expect me, please let me know. I can do any night, so no worries, just don’t want to be among the missing.
Jean
JeanParticipantTim, I am sorry to hear about Abe, he was a fine looking animal.
JeanParticipantI moved the picture to the bottom, please let me know what you think
JeanParticipantI went to the print shop to pick up the newsletter tonight, in hopes to get it in the mail tomorrow. My printer had promised to leave them in a box outside his shop, as it would be closed when I got there. It was NOT there. I am so bummed. Unless I can get to him by 7am tomorrow morning, there is no way I can get them in the mail until Friday. I will email out tonight to everybody on the email list.
JeanJeanParticipantI have a question on standing to be hitched. One of mine will not stand to be hitched or unhitched without someone at his head. I have been working on ground driving him and having him stop and stand at various times. He is fine with that, but when he knows that the stone boat or cart is behind him he is very jiggy. He always starts off with great excitement, sometimes rearing up and lunging forward. I stop him and ask him to walk off calmly. He also knows when the hay bale is placed on the boat, or removed from the boat. He wants to start right away. It looks to me as if he feels the standing is not the reward but the punishment. My question, do I go to the stone boat and try to hitch him, if he moves, do I walk him around, go to the boat again, try again, until he does not move? I would really like to be able to hitch him without having to get some one to stand at his head.
JeanParticipantI can take on the job of changing the picture every now and then. I will try to get a logging picture up tonight to get people excited about the workshop coming up.

Just found out yesterday that Southwest has a non-stop flight from Denver to Manchester. Manchester looks pretty close to Athol. Hmm…
Hope you can make it Scott. Manchester is pretty close to Athol. At least country close, maybe for a city person it would seem far away.

8:00-9:00 or 10:00 breakfast and people coming in
10:00 Head out to the woods, bringing sawlogs to mill and cordwood to landing
Milling lumber for scoot
12:00 Lunch
1:00 Back out to woods
Felling demo, if Carl or Brad Johnson wouldn’t mind if there is interest. I will try to have lots of wood down but maybe not enough for all the teams, there will still need to be a chopper I think to buck, etc.
Start building scoot in heated workshop
Keep milling if there is interest.
3:00 Snacks? or just a constant pot of coffee or hot cider and donuts.
4:30 Chores
5:30 Supper
6:30 Hopefully, presentation by Carl on timber harvest Co-op.
Sunday
6:00 Chores
7:30 Breakfast
8:30 Off to woods
Scoot building
Milling
12:00 Lunch and pack up.
