    George…we plan on keeping them in the tractor as you’ve suggested. I was curious about the chicken wire and if I needed to put hardware cloth over it for the first two feet up the sides. Your opinion? Also, which fence from Kencove do you use and also which charger?

    As far as the plucking goes, a good friend of ours (who lives a couple farms down the road) has a commercial scalder and plucker that she’s offered us to use. Really nice of her, for sure!!

    Thanks for your help!!

    Thanks for the replies and comments, Erika & George. We’re both new to this and will likely be “leaning” on more knowledgeable people along the way. The original thought was to keep them in the tractor for the eight weeks, moving them everyday once they start growing. But, I’m contemplating doing what you do, George, by making them a “paddock” area using electric fencing to cut down on the number of times they have to be moved. The fencing is a bit pricey, but it’ll probably pay for itself in the long haul.

    The tarp is primarly used for shade purposes. It’s folded back about 4′ in its current configuration. This is really a “learn-as-we-go” kind of arrangement. Of all we’ve read, it should be a relatively simple process. We’ll keep you posted.

    Mark;

    I have some seasoned sugar wood if you run short. Let me know.

    Thanks for the info, Mitch. Please keep us up-to-date as things progress over there. It’s a very interesting, and worthwhile, campaign and it’ll likely have a ripple effect as time goes on.

    My mother’s side of the family were all farmers from the Oakland/Smithfield area, so the small farmer’s plight in Maine strikes a familar cord to me. Keep up the good work!!

    Is there any way you can post the exact wording of those warrant articles?

    Nothing starts the healing process better than another pet to fill the void, once the grieving period wanes. We had to make that tough decision a few years ago and we didn’t think we wanted another dog until just recently. We realized there was something missing around the house (we also became “empty-nesters” since our last dog), and decided to find another companion. We pick him up the end of the month.

    Geoff;

    I haven’t forgotten about posting the pictures, but the snow has kept me quite busy for the past week and a half. Last night capped it off with a thunderstorm!! I just got thru scaping 3-4″ of packed ice off the driveway. I have the trailer covered right now, so I’m going to have to dig around it so I can access the back enough to get in and take the pictures. I’ll try and do it by the end of the week.

    I hated Bartsow, CA when we were there in August of ’09….but it’s getting to look better and better every day!!

    I received an e-mail from SFJ yesterday, indicating that they were “possibly” another 4 weeks out in re-printing the book, and suggested that I try to find it elsewhere. I did a brief Google search and located one on Amazaon at $112.00:eek:. I called Meader Supply this morning and have one waiting for me to pick up tomorrow morning. She said they have three more in stock, so if anyone is interested, you ought to jump on it….they may become as rare a hen’s teeth:rolleyes:.

    Geoff;

    Yes, Pete and Sandy are/were in Northern Idaho. Don’t know if they’re still out that way….probably too cold for them so they came back to the balmy (-20) weather we’re having!!!:D

    I had a piece of the aluminum channel in my workshop, which I have taken some pictures of. I’ll take some of the application on the trailer, itself, on Thursday and post them.

    Geoff;

    I ran the plexiglass all the way back on both sides. I’ll take some pictures on Thursday and post them (working before dark until after dark the next few days).
