If you damage your chaps throw them out and get another pair!! The outer covering is designed to protect the lining and any pull on the fiber will effect their integrity –
You can buy liners and sew them into a pair of pants –

I remember using an old mac – can’t remember what model – but you had to push the oiler – beast of a machine – my uncle filed it in the evenings – put out a pile of chips but hang on!! oh to be young and dumb again –

Respectfully Scott – yes skip is for big wood – but it works for what I’ve been cutting here – faster – 20″bar 3/8x7rim sprocket ,50 guage- most of the wood is hardwood 12″or better and pine 18″ and up –

Mark – I tend to use the441 most of the time -the 310 if I’m going to be doing alot of limbing or cutting spruce/fir –
I can’t emphasize enough how important proper filing and body position will effect how you feel at the end of the day –
If you do try a larger saw make sure it is tuned and sharp –
I don’t notice the extra weight much unless my saw is getting dull – i also use full skip chain that cuts faster and takes less time to file – though will dull sooner –

yarding is hauling down the road to landing – twitching is from the stump to road or landiing – the right horse is “off”the left is “near” – limbs are slash – brush is what you cut to get to and away from the tree or on the road -a chopper cuts and limbs –
A jag is a load – Swamp or to swamp (swamper)is moving brush and slash out of the way and some times choking the log (wrapping the chain)-
There are quite a few more terms used and I’m sure someone else will pipe in – These are used around here –

I use both bits – the liverpool on two of my more “willing” boys and a snaffle on one who wont get out of low gear –
as for horses not coming to halter it is a bad choice on their part and they are asked to leave – horses are creatures of habit and will develop a relation ship with you based on trust and routine – you had a routine going and took time off, loosing your place as leader and will have to re establish your role-
