the biodynamic 500/horn manure prep ,if you could be so kind , Good luck with working your horse . karl
karl t pfisterParticipantI have one I like it alot , is best for small trees in my opinion ,good especially in pine plantations .
karl t pfisterParticipantcongratulations donn any live color is a good color , do you have any black mares with a cakes baking in the oven ?
Something out of kilter can’t see the photos good luck ! !karl t pfisterParticipantWow 5 year olds that’s great ! Or maybe the management of border patrol wants it agents really mad by the time they catch up to
border crashers. That’s what happens when ya ride rank stock, ha hakarl t pfisterParticipantA related thought to the breaking the older wild horse or perhaps even older gone feral horse . Randy Bird of Ontario Ca. a very experienced trainer of driving horses did an experiment a few years ago with older 12yo + to see if the they could be useful “workers”. He chose the calmest people friendliest one of 10 head ,and after 90 days in captivity and 60 days of work he got one drive done of about 20 minutes. He concluded it was not at all worth it to try and break the older wild horse. Not what one would call an in depth study , but he is a very motivated and thoro trainer for what it ‘s worth besides being off topic .
karl t pfisterParticipantWe were in North Carolina last year with underated trailer tires and a hot sunday .We blew the 1st tire and 1 hour later another only one spare .We were just inquiring about nearby farms when a fellow stopped and said he probably had a mounted tire I could have, and he did !! 15 minutes each way and on our way . It was a little weather checked buy went a hundred miles to our scheduled stopover .The fellow was so happy to past a similar favor on ,his was a radiator problem . A friend buys used tires and always has 2 spares ?
People on the road seem to be happy to help if they have the time !!karl t pfisterParticipantWow,a truck fire is a nite mare of mine please let them know also that if the farm chores get to be too much ,we have a 4 acre paddockplenty of grass ,extra hay, can truck horses. i’m in landgrove 1.5 hours away . karl
karl t pfisterParticipantI’m not an ox man ,But my horse round bale feeding system is a 10×10 simple shed with round bale feeders bolted to the outside, and hatches to fork the hay out ,and keep the horses from self serving.
Salad bar on 3 sides the 4th for loading r bales .I put wood chips around ,drier and less stones with spring clean up
karl t pfisterParticipant“no attempt to get the horses permission ” That is great ! With bridling a resistant horse they can really test you in a personal way .They can get more creative and evasive with the slightest hesitation .
as kids we had a horse that went from being hard to bridle to aggressively trying to bite, there may have been other issues who knows now? ,but the point is as Carl said go with the intention that it’s going to happen, no pausing till it happens , but not aggressive either.
I bridle mine tied to a halter and leave the halter on. some people cross tie. Loose is ideal ,something to work towards . I also think once you have a little success , putting it on and off several times and several times a day then may desensitize her to the process. How old is the mare ? Sounds like a previous owner may have some information ? Good luck be creative ,I never tried to candy approach
karl t pfisterParticipantthe disadvantage of a wheel rake is that they tend to rope the hay, not allowing as much air movement as even the rollerbar rakes, but given enough time and good weather they do make hay! wonderfully simple and a great price to boot ! Also don’t set them so low that you’re raking the ground.
karl t pfisterParticipantSounds like areal deal Mitch how about same with snow ? sort of the way the government places more emphasis on the 1/4year totals than the monthly , the 1/4 year seem to average out ,but the lack of rainfor 30 days at a critical point in plant development can make a wicked difference, sort of like defoliation from army worms . Well back to tedding
karl t pfisterParticipantHere we got just 1.75 ” of rain in June and some of the more gravelly spots the 2/nd cut is turning brown ,ugh . we are about 3/4s thru 1/st and 2/nd cut a ways off .
Anybody seen any sign of the army worms ?
karl t pfisterParticipantI did go the extra mile and bought an I&J seat with the back rest . They seem like a tractor seat really but set up so it goes on my other forecarts too. It really saves my bad back ,doing a backwards bend every so once in a while . And the vinyl covered foam ain’t bad on the butt either .
karl t pfisterParticipantI’d be interested in the fall as well . Thanks karl
karl t pfisterParticipant“Sporting ” Is one way of putting it , I think of it more in terms of gambling . Putting faith in charlatans ,who understand little of the variables of weather . Sometimes I look for a 12 step program for folks like us . Gamblers anonymous would cover only 1/2 the sins …
But I do love it when the weather is good and things are working right
But I guess the old timer was right again about June haying , Ya never get what you pay for . - AuthorPosts
