lane out of curiousity how much hay would be on that wagon of loose hay if it were baled into 40 pound bales? mink
minkParticipantguess you just got lucky jac. my mares go when they want . only thing worse than a cow peeing on a flat rock is a mare peeing on a flat rock:eek:
minkParticipanti was kinda thinking that the extreme fast growth cut the heat requirement as compared to ordinary chicks. im curious to see how jim makes out with his feed requirements. ive never raised any but i looks like it takes about near 20 pounds a bird.
minkParticipantgeorge are you saying that the cornish crosses only need heat for a week or 10 days or did i misunderstand?
minkParticipantif it rains do you need to tarp the whole thing or are the birds smart enough to go to the tarped end? from what i’ve read the cornish cross birds grow like crazy. guess all the do is eat , crap, and grow. supposedly only 8 weeks from start to finish.
minkParticipantmy pasture is a combination of black mud ,rocks, and more rocks. in the summer i use them alot on the blacktop also and use no shoes. before i learned to trim my own a farrier came and commented they had hooves as hard as the rocks out there:D id say the most important thing is to regularly trim and dont let them get those big flared out hooves that we see so often.
minkParticipantsure dont look like chazy lake we still got knee deep snow here and the lawn thats melted some is so wet you need rubber boots.good to see the girl likes the horses.we dont cut the lawn here til first or second week of may……mink
minkParticipantgeorge my set-up is the same as rods ,except my wood shed is straight and his is ”L” shaped.my boiler is a woodmaster thats plumbed for 2 seperate runs but currently im just using one .i just built a garage last summer so i hope to add another circulator and put a modine in there. as a side note my furnace has a forced air blower in the door and my 2 neighbors dont have the blower. i been noticing all winter that theirs puts out 3-4 times as much smoke as mine. i ususlly have just a slight wisp of smoke when no heat is called for and just heat waves when its going…..mink
minkParticipantgeorge my brother-in-law built a building -woodshed like i think you are wanting to. one word of caution dont put the outside burner under the roof as the smoke stays trapped when you open the door . i have my woodburner about 7 feet in front of my woodshed so i can run the tractor between the 2 for snow removal and filling the shed.i had my outside burner for 6 winters so far and i think their just the cats nuts. i havent burned a quarter tank of heating oil since. one guy i know has a shed and he just pushes wood into it with his tractor , thats a saver if you have a big enough shed.
minkParticipantthats a cute picture. when i was small my parents took me on a trip to minnesota and we see two pigs hooked up to a little wagon. they had a harness similar to a horse harness and pulled the wagon around a circular driveway, very neat mink
minkParticipantthe story was on channel 5 news tonite. the news lady did a fine job on the story. one of the linemen commented that people going by and seeing them would ask if they were still in the 1800’s. snow was so deep the guy leading the horse had snowshoes on. mink
minkParticipantdo you need to belong to facebook to access the story? all i get is the headline. mink
March 2, 2011 at 12:01 am in reply to: Ronnie Tucker’s operation (Pics/Disc. Mules, Jerk line, loading logs w parbuckle) #66109minkParticipantthats one hell of a load of wood he managed to get up there. i could see myself trying that , id be like oh no ….oh no….get the hell out of the way:p
minkParticipantwondering what others do in deep snow areas for fencing around their barns. i keep my horses in every nite but they go outside in the light with a round bale . they seem to stay within a few hundred feet of the barn most days.
minkParticipanti see your 2 dogs like the horses too, funny thing how dogs like to go along, my little dog likes my horses too…….mink
