Here, here. Droverone. I for one will try my best to ensure oxen in the traditional sense is still revered and used in all aspects of draft use. I’m glad you ejoyed the time spent with us.

Shod a beautiful pair of Gray Durham and Herfords. They were a joy to shoe. 5 years old. Had to shoe in a way that corrected Bright’s left front foot. It was turned off and inner hoof turned under. His feet looked great when all done. They had been entered in a fair already. Won first place. Hauled 6800 lbs.

Shod a nice pair on the weekend. Very moderate. Durhams. Heels a bit splayed, but very good feet overall.

Hi, Albert. You are welcome to come watch me shoe oxen any day I’m working at the Museum. We usually shoe one pair a day. Come spend some time with us.

Well, shoeing has been put on hold as big hinges are being made for a nearby fortress. First team scheduled next week is for a champion ox teamster. Not sure why he comes to me as he can shoe himself. He has said that my shoeing means a better placing in competition. That must be it. Looking forward to the oxen as they are impressive. Too bad they have thin soles, but the firey ones usually do.

Well, found out today that ox shoeing will be put off for a week or so, as I will be conducting workshops. Will make some more sets of shoes Thursday and Friday though. Hope my arm holds up. This will make 27 sets available.

Horse bells were made the same way. Many of mine are that way. Also, for horses, round bells made from plated sheet iron and solid brass/bronze were fabricated. Swiss type bells are a favourite of mine to ring. They have distinctive, nice sounds, albeit, I have not seen one that carries sound very far, but I’m sure there must be one or two that do.

Yes, Mark, they can be. There are numerous other ways to change the tone and pitch, too. These should be tried before heat treating.

We have a lot of head yoke makers here, but Droverone is a good guy for that. If we are ever down that way, we will give seminars so you all can make ’em. They are not hard to make. Might be a good idea for a paid trip to see your country.

Not bad for the first time. My first few were hit and miss. That was years ago. Be careful of warping the bell when brazing. Try doing it the traditional way using a clay ball.
