So no horses? Ranger (off horse) always has a big sloppy one ready for someone.

I’m not sure I wanna know, but I’ve gotta ask: is this a natural phenomenon or did you specifically train him this way?

I’ve decided to add an event. It’s the “Kiss My Ass for Charity” event. Here’s how it works: when we first all gather, we nominate whoever we want to be in the event – each nomination costs you a dollar. After that, throughout the playdays, we vote. And in the grand tradition of our intrepid leaders in DC, you buy votes. Stuffing the ballot boxes is STRONGLY encouraged! Ya can even vote for yerself! Each vote is $1. At the end of the playdays, the (ahem) “winner” kisses my big ass Jenny-Mae. The “lucky” first runner-up gets to kiss my cute little ass Little Bit. All the money will go to a local charity (haven’t decided which one, yet).
Disclaimer: No animal will be injured in this event = ALL winners will be issued breath mints as needed.

Let’s see if I can figure out how to post a photo or link to it:

Jenny-Mae is the spotted ass on the right; Little Bit is the grey

Plans that I can take to a couple of handy fabricators I know would do, or perhaps buying something already made. One thing would be the ability to attach the tool and then transport it between gardens that are a ways apart. Wheels/dolly or a lifting apparatus?
Also, for the bucket scoop, I always wondered about something along the lines of the thing (buckrake?) that’s in Lynn Miller’s books. It’s used for piling loose hay, with the guy riding behind the team, and the apparatus up front of the team, with long “teeth” for scooping the hay…it somehow raises up w/ the forward motion of the team. Replace the teeth w/ a bucket, make it so the bucket can tilt/empty upon demand, and perhaps to hold the bucket up off the ground for transport. That’d be good for gathering and then piling, but not for turning a pile of compost, I don’t think.

You can find a couple of threads on this – try anything w/ the subject of Promatta (sp?) in it. Personally, I want a walk-behind toolbar w/ interchangeable tools (discs, various cultivators, etc. ) that can be used behind one or both of my large-standard donkeys. I farm produce, so any of the various tools for that type of work, as well as for snigging firewood logs. As I indicated, the French people at Promatta have the Kassine, but trying to get plans and/or the toolbar over here hasn’t happened. But their website has photos that would give you an idea of what I’m talking about. A small mower (riding, w/ sidebar blade) would be nice…but it’s not merely a question of smaller blade, but the weight and balance of the entire thing needs to be downsized.

That is an excellent idea! I’m glad you shared it with us – I hope they continue to do well.

    Woot! Woot! 😎

What type(s) of horses does she have? You might need to bring a step-ladder to throw the harness up on some of the big’uns.

    My turn…
Going up to L-town, got the 3-80 air conditioner on (open all 3 windows and drive 80 mph!), when Tugboat, who’s been enjoying the ride – more so than anyone driving behind us – decides to stick her head in through the back window…before I could push her big old noggin back out…you guessed it…my turn to get slobberknockered!
    *yuk*
I don’t care if it WAS me…that was funny!
Hey! Anybody wanna go for a ride in my truck?

Hey Don…if he ends up being 1-eyed (instead of totally blind), he can still be useful, if you and he are adaptive enough. This from a 1-eyed guy, so I know just a bit about the subject. As for going totally blind – what is/was his intended purpose? As a working donkey, or a breeder? I don’t know anything about lepto – if it’s contagious or hereditary? – if not, and he’s good enough quality for keeping as a stud, then why not? He can accomplish that, still. Just a thought. Sorry to hear about this, though.

Here’s another ‘back door’ way in: take an ad out in the local paper and/or freebie paper – the one w/ all the ads in it (most places have those), saying you are looking to adopt or purchase a draft horse…might find someone w/ one they’d like to see go to a good home – and if they have a draft horse/mule/donkey, they probably know how to use them. Or perhaps an ad on Craigslist?

Have you considered training one of the goats to drive? It’d give you experience, anyways. There’s a place in Georgia; Hoegger’s or Haegger’s or some such, that sells all things goat: including a small Amish-made cart, harnesses, etc. Since you’ve already got goats, and want experience in driving…? Just a thought. BTW: it’s not that mules and donkeys are stubborn; it’s that they are very stubborn about not putting themselves in danger. It’s why they never used them for riding into battle! As for those places that haven’t responded: is there a membership list posted on their site(s)? Just contact one or two directly from their contact info…members, advertisers, breeders or sellers of carriages…which makes me think that you could google for equipment/harness sellers and ask them who they might’ve sent items to near your area. Have you tried contacting local animal shelters? Our local one (animal Ark) had 3 old donkeys they had listed as being given away…the person turned out to work at the local radio station, and the animals were really too old for work (25+ y.o.!)…..but the gal said, “Hey, I know a gal REALLY into driving donkeys…” turned out to be the one (now) on here known as the Demented Donkey Dame! I wasn’t even looking for a mentor, as yet, trying to find the donks, first – and not thinking there was anyone in the area – and there she was. Serendipity. In fact, by the time I contacted her, I’d bought 2 donks over in Montana…that turned out to be from the same herd as her great donk, Lippy Luvver Luc! I told you this story (didn’t mean to hi-jack your thread) to just point out the convoluted way it worked out for me, and give you ideas…and hope!
