in my mind its worth whatever you think it is worth. you only need to satisfy yourself
Yeah…a lesson I learned on that, is that if you check around too much, you’ll be greatly pleased when you find someone that paid a lot more for something similar…right up until you find someone that paid half what you did.
The main question I see is: do you like it?Robert MoonShadowParticipantThanks, Scott, for the insight. Stay safe in the woods, man!
Robert MoonShadowParticipantDonkeys that I have aren’t really good at brush-clearing. My grade goats (various dairy breeds I’ve crossed on Boers) are rented out just for that – I get $10+/day for the herd, use 4 rolls of 42″+ electric netting and I move the herd about once a week (about 15-20 head). Great on the multifloral rose, napweed & star thistle.
Robert MoonShadowParticipantAhh…I couldn’t see it clearly enough to tell it was a britchen. You been working him in this for very long?
Robert MoonShadowParticipantI guess it’d have to do, in part, with what you paid for it…your intended use (casual, daily, etc.) and if YOU are satisfied with it…
Robert MoonShadowParticipantIf he can haul you & that cart, he can definitely do some work! He certainly looks good 7 stout.
Robert MoonShadowParticipantThat is totally cool! I like the way you’ve created the line of draft to adapt to the pack saddle. How heavy is that set-up, and how much of a load can he/she haul with this? I don’t see the detail on how it’d back up, though…
I’ve got two old trailers – one I’m turning into a forecart…and seeing this, I’m inspired to try to adapt the other into a cart for me donks!Robert MoonShadowParticipantI’m not surprised with what Jean’s minis can do…after all, weren’t the mini horses and donks originally developed for mine work? That’d be some serious hard work, in itself, in lousy conditions…I think people overlook the usefulness of smaller animals – especially on smaller homesteads and farms. As for snigging smaller firewood logs…smaller (diameter) wood – to me – means less wood to split w/ my gas woodsplitter.
Robert MoonShadowParticipantBummer…can’t get it to open.
Robert MoonShadowParticipantNice looking Mammoths!
Robert MoonShadowParticipantI think it had more to do with you and those big gorgeous Belgians you’ve got!
Glad you’re okay, and you’re always welcome wherever the Jolly Roger flies!Robert MoonShadowParticipantFinally got near a computer – Geoff, you were correct – it’s a right turn, although you obviously found it. I had fun, hope you did, as well! Those big boys sure are impressive, in action…will post photos when I next go to town. Got it disced up, had many people stop by afterwards & since then, asking questions. As Geoff knows, we had several stop to take pictures & enjoy watching us.
Geoff – I hope your back is okay?Robert MoonShadowParticipantDave – If you’re coming up (love to see ya!), I’ll post photos of the turn-off from the south, as well.
Geoff, Dave, etc. – Any idea of how many you’re bringing (people and/or critters) so I can plan the chili & hay would help.
Robert MoonShadowParticipantYep – I’ll be here all day Friday!
If I go to town tomorrow, I’ll try to take photos of the turn off to post here.Hwy. 95 south to about a mile south of Hoot’s cafe; turn left onto old Hwy. 95 (there’s also a sign for Hammer Creek Rec. area). As soon as you turn, if you look off to your left (10 o’clock), you’ll see across the river my place, w/ the Jolly Roger, goats, large metal shed, donkeys, white Ford flatbed p/u w/ wooden racks, etc.). Follow the road back north for about a mile; there’s a fork in the road – take the left over the bridge (Doumecq Rd.). As soon as you cross the bridge, turn left onto Deer Creek Rd. follow along the river again to the first place on the left, right past the port-a-potti. If three dogs come up to greet you, you’ve got the right place. If you see 3 hillbillies w/ shotguns & start hearing the theme music from the movie ‘Deliverance’ – keep driving!!!!
Robert MoonShadowParticipantGeoff – Oh, it’s on, buddy – it’s definitely on for Saturday! Only one rabbit for the chili (the young one isn’t big enough yet), but I’ll toss in a yard-bird (tastes just like, um, rabbit!). Been in the low 90s, but nothing’s been plowed up yet – although I did disc it to absorb moisture – in fact, the center of the plot is being dug up to expose the 3 septic tanks, to get ‘grandfathered’ in on the permit, so there’s only about 1/2-2/3 an acre to play with, but as soon as it is, the peas and other spring crops are going in!
And yeah, there’s a safe place to park the forecart – between the dogs, donkeys, goats & the geese on “goose knob” across the river, not much goes unnoticed around here! DDD is trying to get her work day changed, to make it over the pass Saturday, and there’s some people coming to buy a baby goat (or 3), so things should be kinda fun, methinks. Oh yeah – chinook season just opened up this last Saturday – - AuthorPosts
