Oh! For sure that is gonna take me awhile!!! Thanks for the good laugh!!
rookieParticipantPlowboy thank you for putting into words what I think. My husband worked on “off farm” job for 30 years to have the family farm we have today. And yes I have cried in the barn over a lost calf or bottle fed one to see it in the pasture the next year. Most people are to young to remember who Paul Harvey was, me I remember and his voice made it hit home for me.
rookieParticipantHow sweet!
rookieParticipantWhat beautiful horses!! Welcome!!
rookieParticipantLet us know some more about you!! Love to read how and what people are up too!!
rookieParticipantHello to the land downunder! Yes please tell us some more about yourself!
rookieParticipantWell had typed up what I wanted to say but I did something wrong!! A journal sounds like a great idea, need to get on that. I have found myself a mentor he knew my dad and calls me little girl (real ego booster since I will be the big 50 this year) he has had every draft breed there is so he has offered to go with me and help me find the best fit for me and the horse. The best to everyone and I hope everyone on the east coast are doing ok after the big snowstorm.
rookieParticipantj.l.holt,
I thought our family was the only one that used old car hoods for pulling!!! Loved hearing that made me smile!!!rookieParticipantIts been awhile since i have posted! The barn is done except for electric, but its not needed for now I put in light panels on the sides of the barn and now that its staying light just a bit longer the inside of the barn is nice and bright. I have been to look at some horses percherons and a few belgians have not found a fit for me! Well maybe I wasnt a fit for the horse! 😉 My daughter has a quarter horse now it was an offer she couldnt refuse. So now I am looking for a single big boy. I appreciate the welcomes and advice. Spring is getting closer looking forward to some nice weather, hope this post finds everyone happy and healthy!!
rookieParticipantTraveling Woodsman,
I saw you on tv! Wow!!!rookieParticipantReading everyones tales of how they fell in love with horses made me think. The first thing I can remember is it seemed we always had Sugar (a really ornery shetland pony) who I took out of the barn harnessed up to a little cart and drove to grandpas.
She would only tolerate this until she wanted to return to the barn, and quite quickly I might add. When riding her you made sure you had your feet pulled up because she would find the smallest crack in the barn door and take you thru! Then when I got older Dad bought me a quarter horse his name was Jack, he was no show horse but he always there to give a friendly nicker. There are a few old pictures of grandpa with his top notch bull and the work horses in the pasture behind him. Both Dad and Grandpa are gone now, so I guess that is why I am going back to horses, they bring back great memories and now I can tell my daughter all about how Sugar use to take me thru the barn door!rookieParticipantThanks Carl, there a lot of different ideas on diets, I’m going to read up! Geesh so many different ways to feed a horse, my dad took care of that when I was young, sadly he is no longer here for me to ask. But I called an old horse friend and his advice was to make sure I ask the person I eventually buy a horse from what keeps the horse happy and fit.
Thanks again,
RookierookieParticipantThank you for the welcome and the good laugh! Our family has raised cattle for years so I think I can find a shovel! 😉
rookieParticipantI am so impressed by the friendly people and down to earth advice. Thanks I will do more reading on diets!
rookieParticipantGood idea I can use the room i will have behind the barn for a small paddock.
