A huge thanks to the Perry farm for hosting the 2012 Draft Animal Powered Annual Gathering, weather was awesome, the turnout was great and it was nice to see all the folks again. If this event doesn’t energize you about the future of draft work, I don’t know what will. Thanks to everyone for their support and efforts.

looks like so much interesting stuff!Elke, we need to start planning an International Gathering for the near future.
September 17, 2012 at 6:03 pm #74633fogishParticipantTim, in your video were the two Bay horses at 2:00-2:30 Brabants?
September 17, 2012 at 6:12 pm #74627Tim HarriganParticipantI think they were Brabant x Morgan but I could well be wrong. Maybe someone else knows for sure.
September 17, 2012 at 7:25 pm #74618JeanParticipantWere they Herb’s horses? From NY state? If so, I think they are belgain/percheron crosses. If they are not Herb’s horses, they look just like them.
September 17, 2012 at 11:26 pm #74622jen judkinsParticipantThey were full Brabants….Neal Perry’s new team. The mare is bred to Neal’s Morgan stallion, Ben…so there may be a morgan/brabant cross on the way. Very nice team!
September 18, 2012 at 4:33 pm #74623dominiquer60ModeratorThe Homesteader was there, they tried it out on freshly plowed sod on a hillside, it was determined that this was not the appropriate application of this tool. It works better on flatter ground that A) sod has rotted well and worked in B) Clods have been broken down and a good seed bed has been prepared. The discs are light an may be fine for sandy soil or a smooth no sod plow down, but I think since they are spread apart they may be best to use for between crops and could be great for hilling corn. I saw it go at Horse Progress days and it really shines in a good garden that is cultivated regularly (using the Homesteader for just such purposes:)
