Narrow Gate farm is a diverse family farm located in Northeastern Vermont. Apprentices will help in all aspects of animal husbandry, horse training, making hay, building permanent fence and rotating animals though pastures.
We raise hair sheep, several breeds of cattle, draft and riding horses. We also keep a homestead garden to feed us vegetables through the year, and chickens and ducks for eggs and meat. This year we will continue to put an emphasis on fence building.
Apprentices will leave with a thorough knowledge of several types of high tensile fence and lots of fence building experience, a necessary skill for anyone interested in raising livestock. Apprentices can also expect significant time spent with horses both in the round pen (training) and in the field, as well as assisting in horsemanship clinics. Lessons in blacksmithing, fruit tree pruning, grafting & care, wool processing and other rural skills are available at the Old Stone House Museum a mile from the farm.
The best applicants are those who are committed to their work, have a passion for knowing, understanding and farming with horses and enjoy working both alone and with others.

Hi Bekah and Neal, Consider adding your post to the Rural Heritage “Good Farming Apprenticeship Network” page. It’s the best list I know of specifically for draft powered apprenticeship opportunities.
