This sled was built to haul my 100 gallon sap tank. I have another sled which weighs over 600 lbs. empty and wanted a lighter and smaller one for the tank and other lighter work. This one is under 100 lbs. best estimate by heft. The photos show the major construction steps. Runners are 3×6 treated with the rest made of spruce and pine. The dowels holding it together are 1.25″ diameter and are drilled into the runners 4″. The dowel end in the runner hole is split with a wedge that spreads the end when the dowels are driven home. This makes for a strong joint with no glue which I find will not stick well to treated lumber. The chains on the draw-bar are for runner friction when going down a slippery hill and the hitch ball is so I can attach my pole if desired.

Very cool Rod. You are a great craftsmen, Are you pulling it with a team?

Do you still have the log trailer and arch?

    Hi Ed

Thanks, I will be using it with my oxen and possibly with the donkey team as well. I do still have the single horse arch with forwarder. and am trying to sell it.

pretty slick rod. in use how does the pole and ball setup work out? you think it is as good as a pole bolted on? i realize that it gives the opportunity to use the same pole on your different implements .

    Hi Mink

I haven’t used it a lot and only use it on drag type implements where a fixed pole would not work.

Nice little sled! I’ll get some pics of mine and put them on here, it looks completely different from yours but I haul a 100 gallon sap tank on it too. Don’t get me wrong you may have the better design. Next time I might steal your ideas.

I can’t seem to get photos to upload but you can see my version in my Oxen album on here being pulled by my daughters jerseys. I made mine to fit some old stainless steel runners I found next to a old sugar house.
