Poppy + Prim
We are offering a perfectly matched team of Haflingers mares for sale or trade. Poppy and Prim are 10 and 12 years old respectively and stand 14.2 and 14 hands tall. They have been working together for many years. Before they came to us they worked on a vegetable farm in the Northeast, then in Amish hayfields in the Midwest. They have also pulled a buggy. We have had them for 1.5 years and have worked them in harness about once a week, usually ground driving or pulling a sled. They are easy keepers and very strong. We adore their personalities. They have been started under saddle and we often ride them bareback. They will need more work to become good saddle horses but they have been very willing to take riders and very responsive to training. We often put kids on them and lead them around; they seem to love kids and do very well with them. They do great with other animals as well; they have been around cattle, sheep, dogs, cats, and chickens with no issues. They stand for the farrier and trailer load. We have done quite a bit of round pen work with them using natural horsemanship techniques and they have responded beautifully. The only reason we are looking to sell these girls is that we are not experienced enough teamsters to handle them responsibly and work them as consistently as they need and want to be worked. We are beginners and have decided to go with one or two larger, older draft horses after working with these girls and deciding that Haflingers are just a little too hot as a breed for us. I have no doubt that they will do brilliantly for someone with more experience than we currently have. Poppy and Prim are very healthy and will come with current coggins, shots, and dewormed.

Their price includes custom-fit biothane harnesses and bridles in excellent condition, two leather English-style bridles, halters, and a nearly new steel doubletree and neck yoke. We would be interested in discussing a trade for a single or team of heavy draft horses, such as Belgian, Percheron, Suffolk, etc. Poppy and Prim will be a joy and an asset wherever they go and will be sorely missed here!
