Abington Grown at We-Li-Kit Farm is looking for an apprentice for the 2014 season. Main responsibilities will be in the market garden, but there may be opportunity to work the sugar season and so some woods work. Applicant must be willing to take on responsibility, be flexible, help with hay and be willing to take on a some milking shifts at the dairy farm. The right person will be part of using horses, oxen and tractors to complete a variety of tasks with a focus on growing produce utilizing many organic principles, cover cropping, rotations, etc. Compensation includes hourly wages, farm products for meals, workmens compensation, options for extra hours and possibly living quarters.

We-Li-Kit Farm is a diverse family farm in Northeast CT. Starting in 1886 as a custom cider mill it has evolved into a working dairy (currently milking 83 head, Bst free), Ice Cream Stand (we make our own), Abington Grown produce business (CSA, farmers market, farm stand), Greehouse & Holiday Wreath business, and Sugar House (at 1,200 working to end at 2,500 taps next year). Plus we raise beef, hogs, lambs, eggs, spelt, rye seed, corn (for silage and grain), hay, bedding, straw and firewood for our selves. There is a lot going on here, please keep in mind that this farm is not an organic farm, but the Abington Grown market garden is a very organic minded component of this diverse family operation.

Here is a link to our facebook page which has some info and a lot of photos, https://www.facebook.com/AbingtonGrown

    Thanks,
