MODA was formed in 1995 to create an exchange of information about the care, training, and working of oxen in order to:
* Educate the public about the historical role of oxen, and help people appreciate the intelligence and strengths of these animals;
* Develop camaraderie among ox drivers and enthusiasts that will help promote common events, newsletters, and sharing information; and
* Encourage the preservation of cattle breeds used as oxen and the refinement of the skills and equipment for working cattle.
