We are looking for a retirement home for Dan. He is a 17 year old grade old style Percheron gelding (17h, a ton on certified scales). He was Sam’s alternate/multiples horse at the US Plow Match, has been driven in various places in a number of multiple hitches, rides and is our rock solid kids horse. With his arthritis, he can no longer keep up with his teammates, but can still be used for a little light garden/woods work or to babysit the kids/grand kids. He likes to have a purpose, great for a beginner with light work, and did we mention he loves kids :).

Dan is a very easy keeper, clips, trailers, stands tied, and does just about anything that you ask of him, we joke that you could literally light a fire under him, and he would just stand there. He stands well for foot trimming, but needs frequent rests. His feet are shelly and we treat him for white line, he has been barefoot for 2 years. We hope to find him a new home with better drainage and soft footing for his feet, and one with people/kids that will give him lots of attention. Just because he can’t keep up with our needs, doesn’t mean that he is just what someone else needs. Doc Hamill’s wife has already contacted me wishing he were closer, “He would be a perfect mentor to new students! He will fulfill somebody’s DREAM!” We would love to keep him local (NY/NE). He is free to the right situation, and will always be welcomed back home.

If anyone is interested in giving Dan a new home please email me, marczake@hotmail.com.
