It dried up enough to put the potatoes in the ground today. We planted about 50 lbs. so far and will finish the rest tomorrow. Still have to get the rest of the garden in this weekend. Hope things are drying up for the rest of you.

    Hi Ed,

Do you have a planter or did you do 50# of spuds by hand?

We are fortunate to have sandy loam soils at our place instead of the Champlain Valley Clay most have. We planted 50 # of yukon golds a week and a half ago. They are now up enough that I will begin hilling them this weekend. I checked the sweet corn field and could see rows yesterday after a nice sunny day. 🙂 I will wait a week or so to up the acre of pumpkins in but the rest of the garden will be in the ground by the end of this weekend!

    How are your broilers doing?

I planted them by hand but did cut the furrow with a tractor. Then covered them with the discs on the tool bar.

We tried some reds this year and the old standby Kennebeks.

The chicks are growing like crazy. Hope to get them out of the chicken tractor soon so they can run around the pen.

We want to get the pumkins in too this weekend.

We are picking up two piglets from Mark Cowdrey tommorow morning.

I am attempting to attach pictures of our Freedom Rangers that will be butchered in three days. The white net fence is 164′ and goes completely around the tractor. We tap the net fence into the high tencel fence used on the farm. We have a big fencer and it keeps the fence HOT. Matter of fact it will kill frogs who try to cross it…poor things!:p

We picked up our pigs when they were 7 weeks old. I think they have doubled in sized already. I need to get them out of the barn and into the pasture.

We hope to finish planting potatoes today, it took me a while to cut the rest up yesterday, a good shady job for a hot day. We love Kennebecs too, but we plant a lot of Yukon Golds because the customers prefer them, a nice tator but not as vigorous as the Kenny.

Good Luck all with your agricultural endeavors,

    Erika

I feel sorry for ya’ll up north. We have already started harvesting taters here in SE Okla. We plant late Feb. early March. The maters are just about ready to turn red.
