That totally rocks Dave, congratulations the first of many I suspect! Good luck on the driving classes!
Demented Donkey DameParticipantDid they have a good turn out for the long ears driving classes? Looks like they had a nice driving show.
Just learning is terrific, so much more fun than going there to win everything!! Anyway it is for me.Dave, let us know how the big Western Idaho Fair goes for you!! I’ve done that one.
PS I had a great drive today with my new driving team…took the camera and got some fun shots of where I love to
be this time of the year…out in the fields with my boys! http://www.2011teamdonk.wordpress.com has the photosDemented Donkey DameParticipantDave, which fair did you take them to? Good luck at the Western Id Fair, the contestants are wonderful folks.
Your girls are beautiful and that harness is pretty blingy!! 🙂
Demented Donkey DameParticipantThanks Tom, I’m still keeping an eye out for that used harness for you!
Oh Mr Moon Shadow…folks he is just a big a kick in person as he is on the list!
Thanks Robert, we do our best not to let any grass grow under Teamdonk’s feet, ya know! 😮Demented Donkey DameParticipantWe hitched three, took the camera and went again! Check the story out on the blog at http://www.teamdonk.wordpress.com
Aug. 11th Teamdonk Three Abreast Part Two. Robert Moon Shadow…was my hero… we had to unhitch out in an open field to do an important fix! Robert also knows just when to hit the button on the camera and I’m lovin’ it! Robert, did I mention you are my HERO!!!! Thank you!Demented Donkey DameParticipant@Robert MoonShadow 28429 wrote:
Almost wish I had a tv, for that!
Robert, I recorded it! It is excellent… will save it so you can see it. A Must See for anyone interested in the D-Ring!
Demented Donkey DameParticipantSuper…I drove a mini horse when I restarted driving…go for it! Now I’m behind a team of big donkeys and we did our first 2011 field drive yesterday. Felt good to be off road driving. It’s posted on the blog if you are interested.
We were rained out again yesterday so our hay is still in the fields on the ground. It received a light shower and a blast of icy cold wind from a cold front!
Opps sorry… just wanted to encourage you to go drive anything you can get your hands on. Have fun and let us know how it goes!

I really enjoyed seeing the close up details and those beautiful logs. I may have even learn something! You’ve certainly got a hard working team!
Here in North Central Idaho we had 60 degrees with a cold wind during my driving time so I played with harness instead, that was yesterday … tomorrow we are in the 90’s for the first time this year! It’s in the 30’s right now and we are still trying to get hay dry enough to bale. Seems we are all over the map on temperatures.
July 21, 2011 at 11:30 am in reply to: Anyone heard of these folks… Carolina Carriage Superstore #68646Demented Donkey DameParticipantJuliana, you’ve received some great advice. The only thing I can add is to find someone who has experience and knowledge to help you when you are ready to start looking at teams, harness and vehicles. You really need to connect with that person first to save yourself a ton of mistakes! I like the idea of a good solid team of older drafts or mules or well trained Fjords for you.
My mammoth donkeys that I have in training now are going to be a nice calm team, unlike the smaller team that were a handful yesterday! That you don’t want!!!
Take it slow and find yourself a mentor first and foremost!
July 19, 2011 at 12:17 pm in reply to: Wanted: Used Donkey Harness and also a Pair of harness for Mules #68657Demented Donkey DameParticipantWish I had an extra set but all of mine are in use. If you need I can pass on the name of my harness maker who makes all my donkey harness. I think I’ve got him trained now as to how to fit donkeys! 😮
You’re going to have a nice looking mule team!
All I’ve got for sale are lots of parts and pieces that mostly are too big for the donkeys I have now but would work for larger teams. See my ad on this forum if you need anything.
I think I’ll add my new pair of 18 inch buggy hames to the list and a set of 20 inch farm hames that I’ve been using long enough to wear the paint off.
Good luck would love to see photos when you get them hitched!Demented Donkey DameParticipanthttp://www.flawhips.org/ I have heard very good things about this organization, you might want to try them just to see if they have someone who might be closer to you. I’ve found that the driving community is very helpful to newbies.
If that is your best option I certainly would go for it at least once. Learning to drive with a mentor is the best and safest way to get started. I can’t imagine anyone draft horse farming there. If that is 3 hours round trip, that’s really not so bad. I use to drive to Montana when I needed assistance, 5 hours one way and over a mountain pass. Driving clinics are also a great source of information! Good Luck to you!Demented Donkey DameParticipantDonn, that is a huge help…Thank You! It certainly answerers the questions why I have so many differences. Since I use a set of singletrees the same size as I had the ones to the four abreast cut down to I believe it will work. If they are to narrow for the big team and the traces rub them it will be an easy fix to change to longer singletrees in the center of my hitch.
I remember reading something years ago about yoke size and how it effects the dynamics of the singletrees so I’m glad you brought that up to jog ye’ ole’ memory banks. You helped me to make sense of this, thank you again! I really appreciate your impute. 😮
Demented Donkey DameParticipantGood luck with putting your forklift boom together, that would really be a help! Thanks for posting the video, I would love to have something like this to work Teamdonk with, even with all the backing. Our hay fields are close enough to the barn that I could see us bring in the bales!

It was a small parade, but lots to experience. …
Jen, what a fun looking entry! Good for you, the team looks so relaxed and confident and ready
for pancakes…. Congratulations, looks like you make all the right decisions! I would not be surprised
to hear you are looking for the next parade, maybe a little larger one next time!
I always consider winning a ribbon to be a nice gesture that someone appreciates all the time and effort it
takes to do parades….not to mention the liability!Demented Donkey DameParticipantThis story could have had an entire different ending. Good Job and Well Done by all! Thanks for the post and the reminder to get out there and work these animals~
