Looking great! Keep it up!
HeeHawHavenParticipantI am getting a MD #7 soon with steel wheels. My mentor is fixing it up for me. Because he’s a friend, I’ll have no more than $750 into it. Good luck!
HeeHawHavenParticipantSo sorry, Geoff! Wish I was closer! Thank God none of you were hurt! The blessing of your child is God’s way of letting you know all will be well!
Dave
HeeHawHavenParticipantHave fun! Wish I could be there! Too much to accomplish down here!
Dave
HeeHawHavenParticipantI would love to go, but not sure if I can pull it off! I need to start irrigating! It’s been hot and dry!
Dave
HeeHawHavenParticipantYou never know, I may come up!
D
HeeHawHavenParticipantThousand Springs State Park – Ritter Island, near Hagerman. Antique tractors plow on Friday. Horse/Mule power disc, harrow, and seed on Saturday. Let me know if anyone is going to come and I’ll look for you. It’ll be easy to spot me with 2 fjord mules and a fjord horse.
D
HeeHawHavenParticipantThere is a spring planting put on by Southern Idaho Draft and Mule Association near Twin Falls this Saturday if anyone wants to attend. Let me know and I’ll message you the details. I’m bringing the 2 Fjules and the Fjord gelding. Hopefully, I’ll get a chance to work them 3 abreast!
Dave
HeeHawHavenParticipantWe ride all our driving equines. The Fjule team is green as riding mules, but will improve. They also pack and have been strung together. Duke (Fjord gelding) has been ridden by mostly our son for 2 years, but he acts completely different under saddle. He’s all business when we drive, but a distracted good under saddle. We are working on him. Our son has mostly ridden him and is not a good leader. We are now working on him. The standard donkey puts up with someone on his back. My wife is working on him, i leave him alone.
HeeHawHavenParticipantIn theory, yes. Depends on date!
HeeHawHavenParticipantDon’t know the specifics of your equipment and I’m not an expert by any means, but I can tell yu that the right team is quite strong and can do a lot if they are used to work. I have a Fjord gelding and he’s quite the beast. Also my fjord mule team has disced 5 acres in a day and didn’t even sweat. I figure if I need more horsepower, I’ll hitch all 3 together. See pics in this thread: http://www.draftanimalpower.com/showthread.php?4997-First-3-abreast!
That is the disc they pulled as a team as well.

Also, who was driving in the picture? If it is the guy the lines are way too loose and that could be the problem. Maybe he is just holding a safety line??![/QUOTE
I thought the same thing. If you’re used to riding western, driving is different and the team may know it. You should have constant contact with them, more like English riding. They may be antsy because they’re not sure what to do. Miles and consistency sounds like the solution for both you and the team.
I also think they look great. I’m into smaller teams. Probably the right size for most people. I have a team of fjord mules that are right around 14 hands.
Dave
HeeHawHavenParticipantCool! Say hi and tell them I want a signed copy of the book when it’s done! (I’ll pay of course!)
DaveHeeHawHavenParticipantWelcome! Nice rig and horses!
Dave
HeeHawHavenParticipantRobert, my Fjules have pulled that disc as a team. But, they are strong. Its my friends disc, but if it was mine, I think I’d use 3.
Blue, this was their first time. We did team lines on the mules and Lee drove Duke on separate lines. I think I’ll go with the set up where you run short lines from the hames of the middle equine to the inside side of the bit of the outside horse or mule. I saw this in Rural Heritage.
