i now believe carl has cronic progressive lymphadema (cpl). the possibility was just brought to my attention this spring.. the warm wet months are the hardest to deal with the secondary infections associated with CPL.. i’m unable to give him the daily care needed to keep it at bay. he is not lame nor shows any sign of becoming lame.. he is a willing partner in the woods and is capable of moving a lot of wood. if there is someone out there that feels they can take on this task, i would greatly appreciate hearing from them. i purchased him as part of a team two years ago without the knowledge of his condition for $3000 (team w/harnesses) he is well worth the $1000 just for the work he will do as long as the daily care fits into your schedule. i would consider taking nothing for him as long as i could be sure he was taken care of more diligently, respectfully, jason

    hi andre,

i was wondering if they would be at the NAPFD this year. have you ever tried to drive them single. it’ would be nice to be able to use one single if the situation called for it.

    yes carl,

he’s been mostly idle this summer while we got our house ready to move into. i paired him up a few times with our old percheron/belgian and they did well on the harrow and the disks.

teammate passed on this spring now looking to sell this gelding single. wide 17hands roan. has cronic case of scratches: weekly care needed, doesn’t effect work. i haven’t worked him single but he gets into a steady pace as part of a team. heavy leather spotted D-ring, bridle and collar. asking $1500 207-589-4000

hello, i believe what you’re talking about is a “hold back” strap that goes to the neckyoke or front evener when there is a pole involved. cheers, jason

i was at a talk recently by a state forester who said a lot of ash were finally dieing due to damage it incured in the 1998 ice storm. loss of crown and the effort to regain that crown led to weakness in the trees defences against pathagens.

i’ve been using a fabric barn for the past few years and it has served it’s purpose but it has been a temporary fix for us. this is probably the last winter it will be up. we have it set up on a wind hill top and where ever the cover is moving there are where holes. it also seems like on this model there are too many connections to fail. all slip fittings have self tapping screws in them but with the constant movement of the frame many have worked there way out.. ours’ (24×30) is anchored in 6 locations using 3’auger type anchors buried in the ground. this time of year with saturated soil and high winds i wish it were more secure.. the light allowed by the fabric is nice except in august when it can get quite hot in there even when well ventilated.. it’s seems like the extra time and money involved in something wood and perminant is worth the effort.
