WTF were they thinking?

Y’know, they might manage to muddle through with this horse, despite their ignorance. Notice at the end, how the horse is standing and observing the aftermath of the wreck? She seems to be fairly level-headed, if a little sensitive-skinned.

If they had used the proper equpiment (a sturdy harness, properly adjusted) and had densensitized the animal even a little a bit first, this wreck probably wouldn’t have happened. There may still have been a few airs above ground, but they probably would have had a much more successful hitch, even with their obvious lack of knowledge and horsemanship skills.

They still may get this horse driving, but it won’t be because they know what they are doing. It will be because of the resiliency of the horse.

Airs above ground, I love it. You’re obviously a glass is half full kind of guy. I’d love to see them take your advice and try it again, and qualify for a Darwin Award, if the horse weren’t made to suffer for it.

With a name like Eryka and a cz in her last name, I am guessing Eastern Europe. Her actions stain a perfectly good name unfortunately 😉 I have been wondering what would drive someone to post such a poor example of horsemanship. Perhaps it was done out of revenge or spite, like when pleasure horse people play hate games and flag each others Craigs list ads to get rid of them. The real shame is that this horse is one fine athletic animal, and they most likely ruined it to driving.

Yes, from the architecture I was almost going to guess the Netherlands. I usually think that the Dutch are more sensible than that, but there’s always exceptions. It looks to be a school of all places, kids play gym in the background. Lots of bicycles too. Surely not the US.

I have watched this several times, and I just keep coming back to Jean’s original question, “What(TF) were they thinking?”

Truly…. What were they thinking?

Everything looks so methodical, and intentional. The girls never seem to have any indication of intimidation, or hesitation. The horse actually doesn’t look that scared. It moves purposefully, and seems to be more interested in fighting than fleeing.

There is no doubt that the setting is ridiculous, and the equipment is inadequate, and there was plenty of indication that things were not going as they should, but it boggles my mind why they undertook this in this way. Was it purely because they were so ignorant that they had no idea how wrong it was, or were they trying to show something that is not represented by the way the clip is presented?

And as Patrick points out, it is really interesting that the horse just turns and looks at the wreckage behind him, as if saying, “There!!”

I actually wonder if someone who had better sense could actually make some headway with that animal.

I think it is telling, in the first several frames when the horse raises its head and gives the wide eye to the camera. It’s almost like a fighter getting ready for a fight, like they have all done this several times before.
