I have twice attended the workshop and had a great time. Good food, good people. Wish I could have gone this year. Would have like to have seen Jason and his Brabants. (miss them). The thing I think impressed me the most when I went was having 50-60 people, some of which had never been near a horse, and not one attitude. Everyone seemed to get along great. It’s awesome to see someone that has never been around animals twitching wood out for the first time. I think a person could go every year and always learn something new. I look forward to my kids being big enough for me to take them.

I was able to watch the show last night and I have to say I enjoyed it. I did see a few things I questioned but I think anyone could find something to question on any of us if we were filmed for 3 or 4 days. Not trying to be arguementative but regarding high grading, I believe they were contracted to cut certain wood and that’s what they did. I might have misunderstood. I personally have cut for people when they wanted trees removed I would have left. Their land, their wood. They’re the boss. I was impressed by how the boss seemed willing to work with the greenhorn and teach him. (Sorry, I’m horrible with names.) When I worked at the butcher shop we used to say it was a good week if noone went to the hospital so the “noboby got kilt” phrase didn’t strike me much. All in all I thought the mule loggers did well considering the size of the wood and the added pressure of the film crew. Nice job fellows. 🙂

She has been sold to a dealer. She is still up for sale I believe. I can get contact info if desired. He’s a decent guy and is honest. Thanks.

Carl, probably a dumb question but is there a mailing address posted here somewhere? Also would it be okay to send a check rather than donating online?

Nice looking horse. If you need a set of hames for that we probably have some kicking around in the barn to fit. We have a bunch of parts and pieces of old harnesses. Might be some the right size if you don’t mind scratches and nicks. 🙂

Hello Bruce. I did sell them to Jason. I hope they and him are well.

I might be wrong but I believe the Canadian chunk is a breed of it’s own. Not sure of the origination. Could just be what chunk horses are called here in the northeast. The one my daughter is driving in the photo is supposed to be bred to another chunk. We’ll see. By the way, regarding the photo I am behind her holding the slack in the lines. Wouldn’t fit in the picture as my smile was too big. 🙂 Really love having her ask first thing in the morning if we can harness up HER horse. That and a hug make a pretty good start on the day.

Thanks Carl and Jim. So basically if the shafts don’t feel too heavy to me they should be fine for my mare? Jim, they are a great team. Hated to see them leave but I think they’ll do well for Jason. Hopefully they get more work then they did with me. I am hoping to get down there sometime to see your operation.

I have to admit that any time I am on the roof of one of my barns I tend to dally some taking in the views. I am on a south facing hill and can see for miles. Have gone up there in the summer just to look around some. Tempted to stay up there and watch a thunderstorm come in over the lake but didn’t think that would be very smart. Still might anyway. 🙂

Carl, if you can’t get time to shovel the barn by this weekend give me directions and we’ll come help. I shoveled roofs all weekend and every night for folks around us. Getting pretty good at it.

Ask away. My experience with oxen has been with teams already trained but I’m sure someone on here can answer anything you need. I don’t think there are any dumb questions. 🙂 I would recommend trying to find someone with a team that is close to you. Maybe you could work with theirs a little bit.

Wow,that is terrible. I am very sorry for your loss. Wish you the best. Anything we can do let us know. Wouldn’t take more than half a day to get there.

Jim, I have had some luck giving vegetable oil to older drafts. Don’t know if it would help. Maybe some sort of potassium supplement?

It occurred to me after rereading this post that it might be taken as a belittlement of Lisa’s shelter collaspe. Definetely not. I meant nothing of the sort. I wish I lived closer so I could help her. We’re in the same shoes. 🙂

First I want to say how sorry I am for your loss. After reading your post I realized how much I hate to sell my team. Not saying I won’t or don’t think I should just that it is hard to part with them. It’s amazing the bond you can get to an animal. Again, my sympathies.
