I remembered that goats hate wet feet. So if you would put a kids swimming pool down,,half full of water then a flap gate, they just might not e get into the water to try it out.

On your shoeing question.. Think of your self, crawling up a ice hill, using nothing but your finger nails.   How many trips do you plan to make ?

You’ve got now until spring to hitch and see what happens.  Hook a team to the pole and split the other one. Trade them around, see how they feel about where they are at.  You might have it all figured out by spring !

Any one ever use step over tie tongs ?  I keep them around for the few time  logs end up on the steepest part world and the land owner wants them down.   I cut as long as possible and delimb.  Stand at the bottom of the log and reach up with the tongs. Get a good hold and just lean back and give a little tug.  The log/pole will slid right down between your legs.  Some just run on off the hill on their own after they are started.  By walking back and forth on the hill you don’t kill your self or your team, climbing up all the time.  Work the logs to flat land or to where you can’t get them to run any more.

If you look for equipment that was meant for a single horse, your two should handle it..Also, there is a lot of equipment out there that was scaled down for a pony team..I know where a one horse mower was for sale.  Add a tong and pull with your team

One of the people I know who hitches four.  had a set of lines made up so it has extra  side lines. This way he says every horse is hooked to his hands when he is trying to back a load.

Another I know has it set to drive the left three when turning left, the very right hand horse is led with a short check strap.   Same way in reverse for turning right.

How old is the foul? The Amish have delt with foul before. They would tell you if it would be doable. She has to go back to work sometime.

This harness maker should measure and fit with out charging extra. You could see where he measures from and repeat for other horses. Sometimes you just got to pay alittle to learn.

To make any hole punch work like the high dollar ones, back up the lower anvil jaw with a scrap. This way you are cutting through the extra piece a little.cutting your intended piece cleanly.

I have always though that the only thing on a farm that has to be done when the time was right was making hay. All the plowen, plantin, and picked can wait a week or two in most years. If you can save a little here and there all year you would have 50gal fuel on hand to do your hay work. and if any could be done with the team that much better. You surly can justifie useing the tractor to get a much needed crop in. This is not about going back to the old ways. its about doing all we can with the horses we have. And if you have work 10mo of the year for a team, foolish to keep two teams just for hay season. just sayn
