Well, I’d be a bad teacher, I think–we’ve only been working with horses for about six months–I think all i could teach would be bad habits!

We’re up in Washington County, outside Prairie Grove. If you’re up this way, let me know! Not many draft animal folks here.

Hey Vernon–where in Arkansas are you?

I know! It’s interesting, for sure. I’ve never used a bar like this before, so I’m curious alongside Jay to see if anybody knows more about these.

Hi All–here’s a picture or two of the mower bar.

I think you’re right, Donn. We’ve been talking with a few folks out on the West Coast about using Haflingers and that’s been a consistent piece of advice (regarding using size-appropriate equipment). Our nearest Amish community is up in Seymour, Missouri, so it’s a bit of a hike for us. There’s a strong Mennonite community over in Oklahoma that might have something.

    Thanks!

Hey All–I’ll get some pictures up later on today of the current bar. I’m worried that the mower will be a bit too much for our team of Haflingers is all–I’m in Arkansas and we just cut grass hay (mixed bermuda, clover, vetch, etc), so I had planned on shifting around the guards anyhow and thought I’d go ahead and shift down a size. But–I’m happy to take advice from folks who know better!

    Thanks!

Though I haven’t messed with it too much, you might try QGIS–it’s similar to ARC, but free (and open source). I’ve heard good things about it.

    Here’s the website: http://qgis.org

You bet, Mike! Here are some photos–we just brought it home this morning. I attached a photo of the serial number as well–I’m trying to figure out exactly which model it is. I think it’s the MD New 4, but I’m not 100% sure (still very new to all the draft powered world).

Thanks for all the help! I talked the fella down to 300 and will bring it home early next week. Thanks again!

We’re about an 1.5 hours (maybe 2) from Mt. Vernon, but I’ll be passing through that way in a week or so.

Thanks, Mike! I’ve found not too far from me that seems to be in good shape, with a steel tongue and eveners, for 350. Trying to decide if I want to buy it–first one I’ve seen come up close to me that’s all there.
