Hay bird , A few years ago i found some stall mats, seconds for sale, and put them in my straight stalls ,over wood . I really like them ,and they hold up well to the drill tech corks I use in winter. The ones I got are 1/2″ or 5/8 ‘s”. There are ones that inter lock and one might be able to back scape with a bucket (carefully ) in a run in shed situation .good luck karl

George , I like to ted a couple times the day of mowing and less as the hay gets drier .(less leaf loss) on baling day depending on the day I don’t like to ted unless the weather is pushing us. There are a million theories out there ,they all work ?
My motivation is the quickest has the most nutrition and least leaf lost, good luck Karl

Hay Donn sorry to hear the disappointing news ,thanks for letting us profit by your labors. We got some hay made too ,not easy even on our driest ground and low day time high temps . My maintenance program for my 25 yo baler is showing knife spacing double recommended ,plunger head bearing showing serious signs of slop . I guess I should have rebuilt last winter , always 20 /20 hindsight ! Anyway Good luck with the fore cart ,methinks Mr Thomas Edison will be looking over your shoulder and admiring your spirit of invention not to mention persistence , good luck Karl

Hay Erik , sounds great ,I have a photo or two . I was wondering if you might post any photos I send you on the DAP ? You see either I am too inept or the files photos are too big, but I have never figured out how to get a photo posted . I have been able to send them to email but not beyond . Thanks for considering the thought Karl

Yes I have over the years taken a lot of manure from other farms , but I don’t believe too many imported weeds . What i have gotten is lots of round bale twine, ropes ,halters, dead calves etc.,none of which are to useful ,oh and rocks !
Last year was a banner year for red clover which I think was imported by some canada geese ,because it is in fields that were never seeded to it ,and we do have a flock of geese that visit for periods of time in spring and fall . Good luck keeping the aliens out .
We do have a Yellow Dock weed problem that is getting worse , don’t know where that came from ? karl

Mark this is probably not what you’re looking for either but I always say, I’ll tell you what kind of winter it will be in April !

Hope you had a boat load of sleigh rides ! We got the snow just in time ,even with that snow we are bare ground again on south facing slopes and where the wind took our snow to Tim Buck Too ,that was a heat wave. I remember another year we lost the snow real fast ,but don’t remember which one ,this is my 30/th year of doin sleigh rides It certainly has has gone by faster than I was noticing .Happy New Year everyone Karl

Hay never have used ironwood but we have some locust posts that are still good we put in in the ’60s . Those you need a screw gun to put an insulator on ,still . Can’t get better value at Tractor Supply . In southern Germany they use spruce saplings like we use fiberglass in rotational grazing .

Hay Mark will try and photo tomorrow , but just looking at the Dec draft horse calender Miscka Farms it looks like he just took a LED flashlight made a wooden holder and, as is said Voila , dun know there may be a wire running there . ?
Wow batteies $80 – I never got too involved I use em in summer for remote fencing and winter for the sleighs a charge lasts 3-4 days x-mas week and a few weeks after that , Those 4″ tractor light throw a ton of light , wait you don’t measure light by the ton no it’s by the year . kt

Mark , I use the tractor utility lights from auto parts store ,they fit inside a 6″ diameter X 4″ long pipe protected ,at the end of the pole . They are rubber mounted take abuse and you can change the bulbs without to much trouble . With a 2 bob sled it takes a little doing to have enough wire slack for turning but not too much to get caught under, I use a bungee to keep it in place . I use a deep cycle battery with a cheap charger mounted there too .
I am sure the LEDs would be slick needing a smaller pipe for protection etc.,but this works for me . some of my drivers leave them on the whole time i like to alternate going in the darkness and as you said using the light where it is trickier driving .
I tried treelights on the sleigh with an inverter , they drew a lot of power and I thought it was tacky in the end . I figured out a light on the end of the pole but can’t get photos on to this site , I guess it takes all kinds to make the world go round . I can email photos if that would help ? Karl

3 across I find easier with a double pole set up . One can use a single pole with an offset hitch point for your triple tree , the horse that works the long end of the tree ought be be the most honest , quicker stepping to keep things tight , especially when going downhills ,with wagons etc.
If you use 2 poles it helps keep all 3 honest and all 3 can help hold back on hills . I find the horses like it when they do the math it’s 33.3% easier I think ? There is a lot of power there ,if things get sticky the middle horse’s harness is always on the other side of a horse, traces ,reins caught between horses etc
The reins are another discussion , good luck

I keep my horses out unless working ,mud is a problem around the hay feeders . I started a few years ago getting chips from the tree clean up crews , that keeps things high and dry . Then clean the whole thing out when time allows , it keeps the rocks to a minimum .I don’t like the rocks kicked back off the spreader at the horses and me ,etc .
I buy a truck load of whole tree chips if the tree guys haven’t brought enough , in a wet year we use more too . It seems to be working well all things considered … Ok after an inch of rain last nite they are not ” high and dry ” but neither are they hock deep in muck . Sorry for the wandering off topic .

In all of farming , fencing, can some days be the most frustrating ! It is a multifaced problem, and as Robert Frost said “there is something about a fence that nature doesn’t like” Lots of good suggestions and lots of opportunity to learn ,even if some days it is how to swear better .
