I will have to measure my son’s bits,I don’t have any.Let you know tomorrow.
carl ny
carl nyParticipantI’d try a longer bit, maybe 1/2 inch longer.Sounds like he’s getting chaffed or pinched by the bit ring.JMHO
carl ny
carl nyParticipantAnd a lot easier to wind through the woods too.
carl ny
carl nyParticipantI if you measure his girth, center of chest to center of tail, and then headstall size(bit to bit, over the poll) it should be enought for the harness maker.Only other thing is the collar size so you get the right hames. JMHO
carl ny
carl nyParticipantDepends on ground cover, terrain, size and condition of your haflinger.Oh yeah, and size of the moose.LOL
carl ny
carl nyParticipantNICE !!!!!!! Looks like she could do some work…A team of them would be outstanding…
carl ny
carl nyParticipantTry it,you’ll like it.She will teach that “idiot” everything you need to know.In the end you will love her for it.Any questions, just ask here, there is a wealth of knowledge here. Not me. LOL
carl ny
carl nyParticipantJust a thought,a tall and narrower tire will pull easier, especially in mud or soft going. Make it a lot easier on your single horse. If they float like you intend,it will be ok.If they cut in, it will be a bugger to pull even for a team. Other than that, I like it.. JMHO
carl nyParticipantLooks like you,and them, did good. They’re quite a young team, aren’t they? Just the right size logs for them.
carl ny
carl nyParticipantIf it was me,I would drill a new hole for the evener and move it up instead of moving the yoke back. I did that so I could hook the draft ponies I had and still be able to hook full size drafts.
carl ny
carl nyParticipantWhole..I only have two horses left, one is an Appaloosa, and a half draft that looks like a 15.3 hand Belgian. My son has two Brabants, three Belgian/Percheron crosses, three riding horses, and one pony.We feed them all that mix.We feed according to how much they are worked. HTH
carl ny
PS; feel free two use that mix if you want,we don’t have a patent on it.LOL
carl nyParticipantI think the wheels that you lift with a lever like Big Horses posted would work best.Have a pin to lock up or down.It shouldn’t take over a minute or two to do all four wheels.JMHO
carl ny
carl nyParticipantIf I was just going to mix 1 or 2 hundred I would do this:
100# oats
10# corn
1# vitamin/mineral packHere’s my mix that my son and I use for a 1000# batch:
638# oats
200# alfalfa pellets
100# soybean meal
50# corn
12# vitamin/mineral packHTH…
carl ny
carl nyParticipantIs that on your direct pull set up? If so, if you add a hammer strap and an evener you would turn out close. Can’t remember for sure but I think the pole is 112″ from the yoke stop to the evener pin. Like I said, not sure and I don’t have anything here to measure.
I buy 12′ poles from the Amish and that would leave about the right amount at each end for hadeware. HTHcarl ny
carl nyParticipantI saw it,it was definitely cool. I would watch it again and pay a little closer attention,I was reading a book through most of it.
